Visited The Boathouse for a light lunch today. We had passed the building on many occasions but because it is set back from the road, didn't realise that it was a restaurant. It has a lovely setting overlooking the lake in Princes Park where you can watch the swans and people sailing model yachts. The outdoor seating area will be open during the summer months. At the moment it is only open daytime but the plan is to extend the opening times as the weather improves. The menu is quite extensive and we found the service to be excellent although other reviewers seem to disagree.

My family and I visited for coffee with our new granddaughter. We received a friendly greeting and very efficient service throughout. In fact there were almost more waiting staff than customers when we were in! The drinks arrived within short time from ordering. The filter coffee in the cafetiere was average as it did not have too much strength or taste (though there was plenty of it) but the decaffeinated coffee and hot chocolate were both pronounced to be good. The cheese scones were on the small side but at least there were two of them being served (slightly unusually I thought) with chutney and salad which had very peppery rocket. Toilets and baby changing rooms were very clean. Overall and good experience and we look forward to returning. I hope the opening hours will be extended to include evenings when (and if) the better weather comes.

Visited this venue for the first time since it became a restaurant. On entering one of the staff tried to usher us towards a table, when saying that we wanted to sit by the window, (where there were plenty of free tables) she was not a happy bunny. Anyhow we sat at the table of our choice. We were looking to have a snack/lite lunch but there was very little choice, bagguette or soup. Before it became a restaurant there was a far better choice, now it really is for those looking for typical English everyday food. As the venue got busier we noticed the majority were families with young children, which I must say whilst we were there were well behaved. We won't be rushing back as the menu as far as we are concerned is too basic and not at all interesting. The staff are ok but there is no atmosphere at all in the place. Shame really as it could be a winner for everyone. Not even allowed to use what was the parking area for the disabled. Whoever came up with that idea, they maybe in a wheelchair one day and will only then realise how useful that parking area was. Shame on you.

Me and my husband visited The Boathouse, I had a nice coffee however I wanted gluten free cake and the waiter took the order, I waited 10 minutes for the cake, the waiter came back and said that they don't do gluten free cake anymore. The manager came and was very rude telling me that "we had enough of gluten free and vegan people". It was so hard to understand him and didn't know what he meant by that!! So sad to have someone like that to be a manager!! Definitely needs some training!
