Most places in Barbados feel a little bit tired and this hotel was no different. But it was still lovely and gave us everything that we expected, had hoped for and had paid for. Our room, 233 (see observation by another reviewer lower) was pleasantly decorated and was medium sized room. We had been upgraded to this room for free and found the view stunning; right on the sea front. No noise from beach or Daphne's (see other review). Breakfast was OK. Not a lot of choice but what there was was good. Lunch was good but, once again a little limited. Dinner was very good and whilst expensive, better value than Daphne's by a mile. Beach very pleasant with plenty to do. Take the water taxi to the Colony Club for lunch if you feel like a change of scene. Staff delightful. Particular praise for Antonia, the customer relations manager, who is terrific.

We would not come again because of the kite which is flown from across the road most days deliberately to irritate guests and sits right above the beach about 50m up. It makes a noise like a lawn mower that is cutting the grass in next door's garden. It spoilt several days when the wind was straight offshore. Neither the hotel nor the police seem to be able to stop him. He has been doing it for many many years. On this basis, and no other, we will not return.

Room Tip: Ask for a free upgrade as near to the beach as you can

We have booked this hotel with wife and daughter a junior
garden view suite
The facility is very clean the service is of high standard
however elsewhere it would be a 4 star plus not a five star
If you would like to tick in boxes everything is ok you cannot
make a complaint on anything.
The first impression is the lobby which is in other places
a better showcase than the rooms itself.
In this case the rooms are better as the first impression of the
lobby is not so convicing.
The friendly , efficient and educated staff at the front desk and concierge
and in the restaurants and bars makes the holiday a memorable one
though not the cheapest one

Room Tip: even some garden view has ocean view over the pool. Ocean view rooms seams to be quieter, but had n...

My wife and I, together with a group of friends, stayed for two weeks over January/February 2012. . The hotel was finally selected as our base in Barbados mainly as a result of the reported recent upgrade of this hotel. It had also received many positive reviews from TripAdvisor.

We arrived at the resort in late afternoon and were welcomed by a member of the reception staff who arranged a drink for each of us while we conducted the registration details. We were escorted to our allocated rooms by the porter together with our luggage. The first room we had a view of was a pool view room which seemed very nice. Our room was a sea view room located in the block of rooms adjacent to the Daphne's restaurant area. To be frank this room seemed tired and a little smaller than the pool view room our friend had been allocated. I had expected a much better room and as a result was very disapointed. Our other friends had similar rooms to ours and were equally disapointed. The fact that this hotel had undergone a major renovation suggested to us all that the rooms would be very modern and spacious. The block of rooms that our room (233) was located was in a poor condition in comparison to the other areas of the hotel.

We raised our unhappiness with the allocated rooms with the manager of the resort who informed us that the rooms were in the catagory we had booked and she could not (or would not?) do anything for us other than showing us an upgraded room which would cost us more money. One of our party actually did upgrade for a negotiated fee, something I personally was not prepared to do. I believe this issue could have been handled much better than it was, and this ,more than an other point, has influenced this review.

We were determined not to let our unhappiness with our rooms affect our holiday and, to be honest , it did not. There were some positives about the hotel and they are as follows:

Pools and pool deck were equipped with an adequate supply of loungers and sun shades.
The beach also had plenty of loungers and shades.
The beach sports set up seemed very good, although I did not use them.
The water taxi to the other resorts was very good.
The concierge was very helpfull in securing tables at the restaurants we had chosen to eat at.
The general cleanliness was very good.

Some negatives for this hotel are:
The restaurant lunchtime service was on many occasons very slow.
The bar service was indifferent , with the cost of drinks being higher than I had expected, perhaps this an island problem more than a hotel issue !.
The beach was bit of a dissapointment as you had to negotiate lots of rocks and stones to enter the water. In all honesty this was a problem all along this stretch of beach, even Sandy Lane was affected!.
We had four nights of disturbed sleep from a faulty fire alarm which woke us up at about 2 am on these four occasions. I was not convinced that this was rectified before we left the hotel.
Our room was also subject to early morning noise from the beach area and also from Daphne's restaurant.

Other than the earlier mention about the lunchtime service at the restaurant we did not use this restaurant in the evening, prefering to eat out at the various west coast restaurants.
Would recommend the following, although some are quite expensive.
The Cliff
Cin Cin
Sandly Lane buffet
Scarlets
Tides
Daphne's
Groots for fish and chips.

I would not use this hotel again and would not recommend it to other friends or family. However I can see that it would be a good hotel to bring children to.

Room Tip: Do not book those rooms nearest Daphne's.

My boyfriend and I took our first Staycation at Tamarind last year and I have to say, it was magnificent. As locals we don't usually get the opportunity to experience legendary bajan hospitality and actually notice it, but at Tamarind they made us feel very special. We stayed in the Oceanfront room with a beautiful view and we got a lovely welcome gift (wine and cheeses). I would and already have recommended many of my friends to try a few days at Tamarind. No regrets!

Tamarind has really upgraded itself since we were last there. Rooms and amenities really good. Could do with better sun loungers and c'mon free wifi these days. But biz centre is excellent. Do drop the meal plan stuff though - it's just not your clientele any more - and Daphne's restaurant next door is excellent. The Cliff restaurant within walking distance a fantastic choice - its whe I proposed in 2007 and we went back to enjoy it again
