“amazing little hotel !”
Reviewed 10 August 2011

hotel beautifully candle lit when we arrived, with a big lof fire. rooms are small but nicely done, with again small bathrooms. all have flat screen tvs, & wifi. our only criticism would be no drawer space at all.
breakfast was really good, with a selction of herrings, smoked salmon & delicious breads, plus loads more !
we didnt eat in the restaurant for dinner, as like verywhere in alesund it was mega expensive, it was however packed.
room 47 is the lighthouse, again small but amazing for a treat, you are served breakfast in your room over there, & receive a bottle of champagne & fruit on arrival.

Room Tip: 407 where we stayed is good as 2 windows overlooking the canla, some only have a small window, howev...

Having travelled in Norway for some time and gone from bad to worse we are delighted to have found Hotel Brosundet. Well priced, excellent rooms, quality fittings, beds and and linen, charming and welcoming reception, interesting design and above all a superb kitchen. The Hotel "Maki "restaurant is no doubt the best we have enjoyed all over this country , congratulations ! Michelin only rates 4 restaurants in Oslo, a big mistake, Maki in Alesund is far better than those.

This is a nice hotel generally but it has a couple of downsides which make it less good value for money. 1. the room we had was tiny and 2. the shower flooded the small bathroom due to a leak in the shower cubicle. Had to put towels on floor to soak up flood and hotel cleaning staff seemed indifferent. Nice view of the water though and generally pleasant. Food in restaurant is ok but not worth the price.

Room Tip: ask for the largest room without a leaky shower

Hotel Brosundet was such an unexpected delight in Ålesund. From the exterior, the hotel is as charming as any of the Art Nouveau buildings in this harbor town. But remarkable architecture (that honors the building's history) allows the interior to shine. The hotel has a urban, hip, sleek feel, yet because of its size and original woodwork, is also quite cozy. The rooms, with huge windows that open onto the water (exercise caution with toddlers) are fantastic ... and the only place in Norway that I have ever seen king-sized mattresses. The staff was incredibly gracious and welcoming; and our children delighted in the gourmet breakfast buffets. As icing on the cake, the hotel was ideally located on the water, within easy walking distance from wonderful restaurants, shopping, etc. Even if we hadn't fallen in love with Ålesund, I would travel all that way just to stay at Hotel Brosundet.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during a trip through the fjords. The hotel is very centrally located (we thought parking would be a problem, but finding parking on the street was no problem). It has been stylishly renovated and has a nice atmosphere. Our room had a great view onto the water. Our main problem is that the room was very tiny.... although it was an amazing feat of engineering to see how they had squeezed the bathroom and tv and desk etc into such a small space, it really wasn't so relaxing as the room felt quite cramped. (The bed, however, was very comfortable and, thankfully, a proper double and not two singles pushed together). The service was professional, but a little on the cold side (didn't spot a single smile). Overall I am not sure whether I would stay here again... it is clean and modern and well located, but not perfectly executed.
