Besides the spacious room, I have not much more positive to say. The beds are cheap, uncomfortable and very small. You would think a Delux room would give you a bed of at least 180cm wide but no, you barely get 160cm and they are not comfortable at all. The ferry goes all night so forget getting a quiet night sleep. Cars are parked outside the hotel waiting for the ferry all day and night. The balcony, which we payed extra for, is shared so its always nice with neighbors who sit up all night and talk, NOT. The hotel has no restaurant or anything nearby to eat. Waking up exhausted and broken we hoped breakfast would make us feel better but it was as basic as can be. Hardly any choice and very little appetizing.

We chose this hotel because of the general good reviews and because we wanted to be close to Ålesund but without the hussle and bussle of the city. We wished for a quiet, spacious room where we could relax. We chose the Delux room thinking it would give us more space and a balcony to enjoy the views in the evening and morning. We are very disappointing in the entire experience and would recommend everyone to stay clear from this hotel.

Room tip: Don't choose any room here!

This hotel tries really hard. Seemingly ran by a very friendly, fairly elderly couple, our room had a brilliant white kinda naval spacious vibe to it, It was extremely clean and bright with a HUGE bathroom with wet room, although the cabinet, drapes and chandelier made it a little dated. This hotel is located right next to the ferry pier. Eventually you will not notice the noise of the ferry clunking against the mooring and the ramps being lowered and the cars bumping over them every 20 minutes. The immediate area is not quite as perfect as the pictures will lead you to believe. The little harbour has nothing you could call a beach and the boats and jetty therein are generally pretty grotty. The views of the distant snow-capped mountains across the fjord just about make up for that. The breakfast was included and the all-day buffet was pretty good value (for Norway) at £25 per head offering all-you-can-eat fresh prawns, pasta, lasagne, pie, veggies, fish-dish-of-the-day, bread, cold meats and ice cream.

The reception by the lady (co-owner) was very warm and helpful. She showed us to room 323 which is a corner room with a shared balcony looking past the nearby ferry terminal over the fjord. Although the hotel is some kilometers from Alesund centre, it is an easy and attractive drive. The lady told us that there was a food fair under way in Alesund and also where to go for the best views of this spectacular town as well as a good restaurant.
The hotel has wifi but had only 2 TV channels, both in Norwegian. The room was very large and clean with a good sized bathroom. Breakfast was average but was forgiven after the fabulous, if cloudy, view as we awoke.
The owner was again very helpful suggesting alternative ways to head north. A very pleasant stay.

Room tip: Room 323 on the corner

This was our second stop on a 15-day fjord visit by rental car. We arrived from the south by ferry and the hotel and owner were waiting for us . After a long drive from Ortnevik on the Sognefjord, we really appreciated the warm welcome and the beautiful enormous spotlessly clean room awaiting us. The weather was not good but the view over the fjord was beautiful. The all-white room with large sliding doors to a wooden veranda with lounger and chair outside and the large luxurious bed and bathroom was a dream to arrive to. We chose for location, we wanted near Alesund but with a fjord view and we got exactly what we wanted. The hotel is SO convenient being next to the ferry, not far from Alesund and unless you are very sensitive to noise ... of cars driving on and off the ferry ... You will sleep very well. We were not disturbed at all even though possibly others could be. On the first day we asked Inga to suggest a nice 2-3 hour walk and she sent us walking up the road with directions up the local Leirvagfjellet summit just by the hotel. We got a wonderful 360 degree view of the area after a good climb. We had walking sticks but families with kids passed us without. A great morning! We visited Runde island bird sanctuary the following day after visiting Alesund and Alnes lighthouse. Puffins and thousands of other birds were flying below and past us ... The hotel has an old-style feel and look to it, the breakfasts were fine, choice and quantity and quality above our expectations. Highly recommended.
