I myself don't mind to stay in that small studio apartment as many days as I want for a quietness and peaceful holiday but as for young kids it's a disaster! So if you are with young kid forget about it.
We liked our stay in this unit and plan to use it again the next time we come to Oslo. The unit is on the ground floor of the owner's house. We had our own keys to our room and to the building. The house is on a quiet side street, but is less than 200 meters from the bus stop at the Folkemusseum and slightly farther from the bus stop at the Viking ship museum. The bus, route 30, comes every 10 minutes and goes from Bygdoy through the Oslo Sentrum bus stop (15- 20 minute trip). There is a fruit and produce stand across the street from the Folkemusseum and a small store near the end of the bus line (6-7 minutes on the bus) and the beach is the next (and last) stop in that direction. During the tourist season the buses go to the major museums and near the holocaust museum.
The unit has a small kitchen with stove top burners, a refrigerator and microwave, as well as settings for 4 people. There is also a clothes washer in the bathroom, but since it was being repaired, the owner offered to do our clothes washing for us. The owner lives upstairs and speaks English well; she was very available and quite helpful to us, including several useful tips of places to go and things to do. We do recommend the purchase of a bus ticket/card for the duration of your trip. The card can be purchased at the bus office outside the Oslo Sentrum train station for a variety of time periods and for 1 or more zones and can also be used for the trolleys and for the regular train to the airport (we had only zone 1 tickets, so the train to the airport cost us 60NK more, about $9 US each). Use the regular train rather than the flytoget (airport train); it costs half as much and is maybe 10 minutes slower due to 3 stops in route. We normally had breakfast in the unit and made a lunch to take with us for our outings. We ate dinner at the unit a few times, but since we were visiting relatives in Oslo, had dinner with them on several occasions. The owner set a small table on the porch for us to enjoy our meals in the yard in the sunshine. There are restaurants within walking distance on Bygdoy or you can take the bus to town to go out.
Ensure that your credit card has a chip with a PIN number as that is the standard credit card payment system in Norway.
