Grand Hotel used to be the leading hotel in Oslo and among the Grand European Hotels. It has recently undergone a major refurbishment and is now a part of the mid market Scandic chain. The reception and common areas have been beautifully restored, but the rooms are cheap and cheaply equipped in line with the tradition of the new owners. The hotel used to be the place to stay in Oslo but is now a place where builders use their Scandic miles for bonus stays and where you have to pay the room at check in.

Top of the line service and very helpfull and friendly staff! When we arrived, we received an free of charge upgrade of the room to a junior suite, thank you very much! Very good breakfast, clean and classy rooms, really helpfull staff as they solved all our small special requests, ure really feel spoiled as a guest!

Several years ago, a Norwegian property developer took control of a rundown, but venerated property in the heart of downtown Oslo. After expending vast sums and keeping art, murals and other details delineating the patrimony and inheritance of the Grand Hotel, its "grand" nature was fully restored. Now under the management of Swedish-based Scandic Hotels, whose ethos is far different for its many other hotels, I hope that the high standards established for such a fine hotel remain and continue...and possibly spread to some of its other prominent properties elsewhere in major cities in Scandinavia.

Spacious and comfortable superior room. Bed and linen of good quality. Bathroom equipped with all you need. Very good breakfast with different selections and for dinner there are two restaurants in the hotel.

The Grand is the classic 5 star choice in Oslo. Location is just unbeatable. Rooms have been adequately updated in very elegant grey and white, and so has the lobby, including a very nice bar. The concierge was not only kind but actually of tremendous value, with truly original and special recommendations for restaurants and cocktail bars. Only drawback is breakfast, served at the nextdoor Grand Café. We had lunch at the Grand Café and absolutely loved it, but breakfast was bland and industrial, with particularly bad coffee. Despite this, I would definitely choose to stay at the Grand again.
