The national gallery is a nice little museum (in European terms) but after they started to charge for the entry I stopped going here. It used to be a nice place to visit to spend an hour just walking around looking at the paintings.

I honestly believe the quality of this place doesn't reflect the entrance fee, if you go make sure you have the Oslo Pass, or go on a Sunday when it's free. Hopefully they'll sort out how to expand or build a new museum soon, where they are able to display all the art they've stored away, which definitely would justify the rather steep entrance fee.

Visited The National gallery whilst on a short break to Oslo in January. Entry fee for an adult was £5 but free on a Sunday. Saw The scream and many other paintings I wanted to see. Well worth a visit.

The national gallery is where you see many paintings that represents the country art history. It is a great place but I like to go to the separate exhibitions more as there is a story behind, a path to follow.
I found the National Gallery a suite of many rooms and not being art student, difficult to get most out of it.
But the building is great, and of course the huge painting collection.
