Our tour was arranged by Thomson cruises from Celebrity. We visited Flakstad church, a gem, constructed in the eighteenth century. Onto Sund to visit a working Blacksmith. Metal cormorants are produced here which are popular souvenirs.Toilets here looked so basic and yet they were amazing clean and organised even though in little huts! Finally the beautiful Nusfjord a fishing hamlet. Photo opportunities abounded. Cafe and shops and good parking. Norway is gorgeous.

This must be one of the most memorable drive in the world, trough dozen islands connected by bridges, tunnels and ferries. One should budget at least three days to explore small roads off the main roads leading to hamlets, beaches and trails. You are always surrounded by mountains and crystal water, quite spectacular. Although this is one of the major touristic area of Norway, the islands are large enough to dilute the tourism. On the main road there are quite a lot of touring buses and RVs but the secondary roads are mostly deserted.

I flew into Evenes from Oslo (cheaper and more frequent flights) , collected a rental car and drove onto the Lofoten Islands for 5 nights, hoping for a northern lights experience.

I stayed nights in Reine and Svolvaer, in between, driving from A to the north coasts and back. Just fabulous country, views, people and experience.

I am planning to return to spend longer and get out on the water tours next time.

I travelled by bus through the islands, and the islands are stunningly beautiful. The scenery is incredible. However there were several short detours to the local artists museum at Henningsvaer, the blacksmith at Sand, the white sandy beach at Romberg, lunch at Nusfjord at the Karoline, and the Viking museum at Borge. I started at A at the lower end of the islands and finished my trip at Svolvaer.

This place is out of world, like really. Bright sun, snow clad mountains , turquoise water, beaches and more. This place is so serene that you will be in continuous awe till the time you are here and not want to go back. Absolutely worth a visit. It need a minimum of 4-5 days.
