Description: Chef and partner Javier Vera Alarcon creates a very current version of the fantastic Peruvian Nikkei Cuisine. He last worked at the best rated Nikkei Restaurant in the world - Maido in Lima - and shows an easy understandable version of these very refined flavors! All this combined with regular cultural and musical events will make you enjoy your evening in this colorful restaurant.

Would go again if looking for slightly above average, but it dod not give us any WOWs. However, I would not characterize this place as trying to be 5, just a 4 of out of 5.

Excellent food, though the raw animal food dishes should have been also offered in bigger portions as well.

The decoration and location are excellent. The service is OK. The variety of dishes is great and highly innovative providing a fusion of Latin American and Japanese cuisine in a colorful fashion. We went there with very high expectations and we were pleased with the meal but the restaurant was half empty so the ambiance was a little calmer than what one would expect of a Latin restaurant. Also, we opted for the surprise menu selection thinking that we would see a more diverse selection of smaller dishes. That was not the case. We had good portions but less dishes.

Mercado serves now food in a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese Kitchen. Obviously there were a lot of Japanese migrants to Peru who brought part of their kitchen with them and mashed it with the local kitchen.
That at least is the story behind the menu of Mercado. If those people do eat like that every day overseas, I envy them.
The place has a certain atmosphere and the service is competent and friendly.
My absolute favorite is the short rib Nigiri which I eat are ten as I can.
Give it a try if you are in the area

I'm still confused by this restaurant. Unsure of positioning - not Japanese, not Peruvian...Food was ok, quite salty. Portions were reasonable for lunch. Outdoor seating on the ring.
