not having been to vienna since 1970s, palais coburg was an exceptional way to be reintroduced to this most charming city, and it is one of the finest hotels we’ve stayed at!
upon arrival, manager of the hotel, mr roland hamberger, greeted us with flutes of billecart salmon rose—a favorite!
our suite was size of a spacious n.y. apartment: on one floor: foyer with small service kitchen, powder bath, off it; ample living area opening to a small, protected viewing balcony; large bedroom; luxurious bathroom. more than ample clothes storage, both hanging and drawer space. rooms are elegantly furnished with beidermier antiques and good very good reproductions of 19c austrian furniture.
pol roger champagne, along with fruit and delicious viennese treats were there to greet us; these were refreshed every few days.
we ate at silvio nikol, the hotel restaurant, which was superb! and, had an excellent austrian ‘bordeau’ from hotel’s famed + impressive cellars!
breakfasts at small cafe, in reconstructed greenhouse opening to garden, above the lobby bar, was a charming start to each day.
lobby bar is handsomly furnished and is an excellent spot to end the day or evening
mr hamberger and his staff made it seem as if we were THE most important guests at palais coburg, which could not have been nicer.
