I'm very keen on archaeological museum from the Ancient World, and I like the Ephesos museum much. It might not be too big, but steel thee are a lot of finds - sculptures mainly, but also freezes, column and the like. For archaeology lovers this museum is a must (or a visit to Ephesus in Turkey instead). The museum is pat of the KHM (Kunst Historisches Museum) and there is one ticket for both places. The focal artefacts in the museum are said to be the following: the Parthian Monument, the Amazon from the Altar of the Artemision, the bronze Athlete statue and the Child with a Goose.
This is a large collection of ancient Greek artefacts which are displayed beautifully. An audio guide comes with the purchase of the entrance ticket and gives a good explanation of the pieces. The building in which the museum is housed is also stunning. Highly recommended.
The Ephesus Museum is in the Neue Burg and is part of the Kunthisto... museum. For us was really interesting to visit this museum as only 4 months ago we were in Ephesus so we could see all the missing pieces! Austrian archaeologists were the one that start digging Ephesus (and are still involved) so there is quite a lot in this museum (a little bit the same of Pergamon and the same name museum in Berlin).
The Neue Burg today hosts three museums. The most interesting in my opinion is the Ephesos Museum which includes excavations and antiquities from Ephesus in Turkey. The other, the Sammlug Alter Musik Instrumente and the Collection of Arms and Armour are smaller museums but admission to all three also includes entry to the Kunsthistorisches Museum across the road.
I think the museum is managed by the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and was established when collections from various places were gathered here. Outside of London and Ephesus, this would be the next best display of Ephesus archaeological findings.
Ephesus is of course a pretty important city in Ancient Greece. The city on the Aegean coast was once a major capital of Asia Minor. It’s home to the Temple of Artemis and its wealth is on display at the museum inside a section of the Neue Burg.
This is a museum which is part of a trio of museums covered on the one ticket. It has some nice pieces and is housed in a magnificent building. As I was at Ephesus in October, it wasn't as good for me as it could have been.
Small but interesting archaeological museum with things found near the Turkish city of Ephesus. If you expect something like the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, you will be disappointed.
