After a full days sightseeing we were in need of a decent cup of tea. As we had only arrived the day before, we'd not had a chance to consult trip advisor for recommendations. We were on the Fleischmarkt and thought it looked cosy so decided to give it a try.

We can only agree with Trip Advisor that his cafe is a real gem and deserves its place in the top ten cafes in Vienna. You must try the cakes, which are to die for and a good selection of teas too. With a good cosy atmosphere and friendly efficient service on top of great food, and as It was Eater Saturday when we visited, we were wished a Happy Easter by the waitress as we left. A really nice touch.

Enjoy your visit.....we did.

After visiting the same cafe on the street Fleischmarkt, we decided to continue our acquaint with the dishes that offers this net of cafes, and they also had the "dish of the day", which includes the choice of one hot dish and a dessert. For the hot dish we ordered the fish. It was brought quickly, the fish was delicious.

But we waited 20 minutes for the dessert, the tea has already cooled down, we had to remind the waitress about our wait. Only after that we got our dessert.

As a summary: tasty kitchen with not excellent service.

There are two coffee shops with the same name in Vienna. This is the one on Fleischmarkt a few minute's walk from Sephansplatz in the centre of the old city. It is everything a coffee shop should be, comfortable, welcoming and unpretentious, serving excellent coffee, light lunches and the most amazing home made cakes and patisserie. We went in for morning coffee and just couldn't resist the cakes and pastries which were beautifully presented. The café seemed to be popular with the locals which is a good sign. For the record, in the courtyard right beside this café is Restaurant ef16 which I have also reviewed. Two of Vienna's finest here right next door to each other.

In my experience getting good coffee in Vienna (and Austria in general) is quite ... challenging. So it was a lovely surprise to get a very good cup of coffee in this very sweet and cozy cafe. The interior design is fantastic, the entire cafe has a lovely atmosphere. The waiters - both that I had conversation with - were really nice, I am a bit surprised to read about the awful service experience with the other graders. They where helpful with the cakes and did not fuss at all when we decided to have only coffee. They were attentive even with the place being really full. So no complaints there. Coffee with milk costs about 4 EUR, the cakes are only 4,20 EUR, which is a good price for a large cake.

Nice welcome but once a waiter came to serve us he was unfriendly. We ordered apple strudel as Lonely Planet had raved about it, but the waiter said we both had to order drinks as it was the "minimum". I couldn't help but wonder if this was just a con as we were tourists. Strudel was nice but certainly wouldn't say it was "unrivalled" like LP said in the guide book.
Because of all of this I generally felt like we weren't wanted there and felt very uncomfortable. Will never go back there and certainly won't recommend to any friends/family. Like others have suggested, go off the beaten track and find nicer places to eat.
