Having travelled on the forest line we had a drink in the cafe am platz which is part of the sports hotel. Drinks outside. Reasonably priced. Menu only in German but he did speak English. Pleasant spot for a break .

A mediocre hotel, pool is mega crowded in the evening and the kids just jump in despite it not being allowed. We were kept awake by noisy kids running up and down the corridor (no doubt mums and dads were enjoying the bar), there was no hot water... well, unless you had time to let it run for 5-10minutes. The fire door squeaked outside our room so instead of fixing it they simply left it open! We enquired about the free ski bus only to be told as it was 7 o'clock we were too late and we couldn't use it. Lucky we asked in the tourist office the next morning as they made a quick phone call and said there was room for us! Hubbies bed was very squeaky too. The chef however deserves a mention as he made super anything eggy.

Having staid here a few years ago it was an immediate choice for a planned ski holiday. The hotel is 20 mins by taxi from Innsbruck airport and has a bus stop to the Patscherkofel ski area outside the door.

Whilst researching prices we noticed a better deal via Expedia than direct with hotel. The room photos and descriptions were identical so we splashed out and booked a suite (described as a quadruple room) with separate sleeping area for our daughter.

After checking in we went to our room to find a disappointing double with the couch made up as a bed for our daughter. No mattress on the couch, just a sheet. It was hard as a rock to sleep on.

We immediately raised the issue with reception and they claimed a quadruple room was what we had been given, in fact they had upgraded us!! Making it clear it was not what we had booked they said they would see if we could change rooms but not immediately as it was peak season.

After complaining the next day and showing the pictures of the rooms on Expedia and their website the kind lady on reception went to discuss with the manager. I could hear her talking to him in English but he just staid in his office and couldn’t be bothered to come out and talk to us. Poor service, I thought.

We were eventually moved to a junior suite but not what we had booked. At least the sofa bed had a mattress for our daughter to sleep on. Looking at other rooms they all appear to differ markedly in size. I am not sure if we got the poor room because we booked via Expedia rather than direct or because we were Brits.

The hotel has a nice rustic Austrian atmosphere and we enjoyed the food. In the bar there is one lady serving with one man who takes the orders but he doesn’t bother to help her even when she is swamped with orders. Or perhaps they still have rules about who does what job?

We still had a nice skiing holiday and the snow was brilliant. Igls is a great ski area for learners and intermediate skiing.

We would think twice about staying at the Sport Hotel and perhaps try one of the others in Igls. Shame.

Great to sit outside in the winter sunshine and enjoy a Glühwein. Shame however that the dumpling soup was awful. I had the same beef stock and dumpling soup all week in Innsbruck and grown rather find of it. Sadly it was completely lacking in taste here and the dumpling proved too bland to be edible. At least the service and drink was good

Had a week’s skiing here in February with my son. I booked this hotel via a late package and found it was excellent value. Although there was a bit of a mix-up over rooms at the start (we booked a twin room and were initially allocated a very modern and smart double) we were soon accommodated in a charming twin room at the front of the building. Everything was very clean and the staff are friendly and helpful.

There is a good health spa at this hotel with a surprisingly spacious swimming pool. In Austria and Germany they expect those using the sauna, jacuzzi and steam room to use towels and not wear costumes (on the basis the latter harbour germs), so those who would otherwise complain about it on here need to get used to that. Given most of the users are middle aged and overweight it is not an erotic experience.

There is plenty of choice for meals, with a good breakfast buffet, salad bar and cheese board at dinner for those who are still hungry. My only critical comment is that the hotel could consider dropping some of its 5 course gourmet menus in favour of 3 or 4 courses which are better cooked. While we enjoyed the experience at the hotel, a few of the dishes were not enjoyable as they were amateurish in the way they were prepared and (I write as a keen home cook) showed an inexperienced chef.

The wine list is excellent and reasonably priced - do try some of the excellent Austrian wines on it.

You cannot ski back to this hotel but the bus service outside is fantastic. There are buses to the local lifts every 10 minutes and to the bobsleigh if you want to try that one evening. On two days we took a special tourist bus to ski on the glacier and another resort both 45 minutes away. They laid on the 40 seater coach even though we were the only two people using it! There is some fantastic skiing in this area so not being able to ski back to the hotel is not a problem.

Isgl is a very quiet place *do visit the church which is 500 years olds and very beautiful inside), but Innsbruck, with its magnificent palace, useums and gorgeous old town cafes is 15 minutes ride away by bus (again easy to catch from in front of the hotel).

Room Tip: If you want easy access to the ski locker room choose the front. The health spa however is at the back of the hotel.
