Air conditioning? Nope. Comfortable pillows (make that pillow)? Ha! Shower? Not a chance. Creaky floors? You bet. Eggs, bacon, toast, etc. for breakfast? Nada. I couldn't even find someone to bring coffee. The highlights are a big room and mini bar with beer, wine, soda, water and limited snacks. The little balcony area was also nice.

If you like old, this is your place. Otherwise, I would avoid. Door keys from the 19th Century aren't my thing. I am more into the modern comforts of a hotel stay.

Hotel Post Romantik
quaint hotel in town where you can walk the cobblestone streets and enjoy restaurants, sites and shopping only steps away!
Only downside is there is no A/C (a small floor fan is provided) and the sheets were all "pilled" that felt like sleeping on sandpaper! They definitely need to invest in new sheets! The wifi goes in and out! There is a small 19" Flatscreen TV but only one American channel, 2 small chairs and a table! There is no iron or kettle for tea or coffee or mini fridge! The bathroom facilities were adequate and spacious with excellent hot water pressure! The breakfast included soft boiled eggs, various cheeses, cold cuts, pastries, homemade jams, etc.

Nice hotel right in the centre of Villach located on the main pedestrian shopping street. The rooms were spacious and clean and well appointed. Receptionist was pleasant. Breakfast was a buffet style with plenty of variety. One thing that was a little odd was that I wanted to get a couple of glasses of wine to take back up to our room when we got back from dinner at around 10pm. Both bars in the hotel were shut so I had to go to the terraced restaurant adjacent to the car park and then carry them up precariously to the room. The hotel has a free car park at the rear which has room for around 20 cars. Access is via various pedestrianized streets which were quiet when we were driving on them at around 18.00 on a Saturday afternoon. Look out for the signs showing the route to the hotel. The route from Draulande (street by the river) is up Wildmanngasse, left onto Leitegasse and finally right onto Paracelsusgasse, from which you access the car park through a gated archway.

The location is superb, right in the middle of the city next to the main cathedral.

The staff here were very welcoming, friendly, and helpful.

I booked a triple room and was upgraded to a two bedroom apartment with kitchenette. It was huge. The king bed was actually two twin beds pushed together as is typical in Europe.

The WIFI in the room was essentially inoperative. I managed to connect for a few brief moments only.

There was a fan but no air conditioning. Leaving windows open brings cool air but invites street and church bell noise from the excellent but busy location.

Breakfast was generous although well ravaged by the time we arrived at 10am.

This hotel is in the centre of the pedestrian precinct and you cannot drive to the front but there is a secluded car park at the rear that the reception staff can direct you to. The reception staff were brilliant especially the young woman who greeted us and gave us a complimentary upgrade. Nothing was too much trouble and a kettle was provided as well as a safe key on request. This is the same group that runs the Le Marechal in Colmar who refused to provide a kettle.
The upgrade was brilliant with the largest balcony that we have ever seen in a hotel, overlooking the car park and dining area at the rear of the hotel. Now I know we were overlooking the car park but the display of flowers in the surrounds far outweighs the sight of cars.
We ate in the restaurant and ordered local dishes that were served quickly and pleasantly by the attentive staff. They even found an English speaking waitress to help us which was very welcome. The wine and beer on offer are extremely nice and not too expensive.
After the meal we ordered a drink and returned to our balcony to drink it. The sound of the church bells rang out across the area and made this a lovely experience - just wished we had booked two nights and not just one.
Breakfast in the morning was just another good experience at this lovely hotel and would recommend the hotel and the staff to anyone.

Room Tip: Try to get the suite at the rear of the hotel - just for the balcony!
