This is the place to go if you like true Agrotourism with people who love what they do share their produce, their knowledge and thereby are great examples for Cyprus' hospitality. Enjoy their food, make sure to get dinner from Sara's amazing Cypriot-Italian fusion kitchen and explore the area from their beautiful historic house!

What a brilliant building and space, and hosts. Sarah and Tassos (owners) have done a great job in capturing the spirit of this old, listed, courtyard village building. The room I had was simply furnished, in keeping with the feel of the building, but with everything you need. Opening out on to the fabulous cobbled courtyard, you felt you were n a different time al together! The value of these courtyard buildings is immediate apparent when you step out of 30C heat outside into the cool of the building's courtyard. Fabulous!

Breakfast is both fresh and individual and made up of local and home-made foods (e.g. home-made produced jams, freshly squeezed local oranges, home-made olive pie, their own halloumi cheese). The breakfast room is open to the kitchen which made the space feel homely and meant you could hold a conversation with your hosts as they prepared your brekky!

The communal areas work really well - a comfy cushioned area area at reception, the open air courtyard and a super warm balcony room overlooking the courtyard. There was a great library of books on Cyprus and its wildlife, and a simple handout given to me on arrival provided a plan of the village and local walking routes. Very well done.

We did not stay here but attended the Cypriot cooking course. They showed us how to make the most delicious Koupepia straight from a Cypriot kitchen. Thank you so much to Sarah & her mother-in-law for sharing their knowledge of this recipe. We will definitely be making this at home.

This little guesthouse exceeded all our expectations.
Situated in the interior of the island towards the mountains, Pera is a very quiet village, completely unspoilt and surrounded by family owned fields of olives, figs, pomegranates and citrus fruits. It is about 30 minutes’ drive from Larnaca and the Airport, and 40 minutes’ drive from the coast.
The owners, Tassos and Sara, could not have been more welcoming. The four double rooms are arranged around a central courtyard with outside seating which must be fabulous on a Summer’s evening. All the rooms are well appointed, and each has its own particular character – ours was vast, with a two storey ceiling and a central stone arch and ornate cornicing.
Sara and Tassons try very hard to serve organic food, grown themselves where possible. Every day we were treated to a delicious breakfast of freshly squeezed orange juice (from the family’s own orange groves), traditional pies made with everything from olives to halloumi, to pumpkin, and Sara’s home-made jam – again made from home-grown fruit – several jars of which found their way into our suitcases at the end of our trip. Whilst most guests opt for bed and breakfast, there is the option to have dinner at Aperanti, where Tassos and Sara will serve traditional Cypriot food: we enjoyed their pasta, stuffed vine leaves and Moussaka. The highlight of the evening is a choice of home-made liqueurs: mandarin, bergamot, fennel and walnut were our favourites.
Tassos’s mother came to demonstrate how to make Halloumi and Anarene (two different cheeses made from the same batch of milk at different stages). The traditional process is performed right in the courtyard at Aperanti. Tassos is a conservationist by training and profession, and so can give you expert advice on the local flora and fauna, and most particularly birds – pointing out the endemic Cyprus Wheater as soon as we arrived - so there could be no better base for birdwatching enthusiasts.
Sara and Tassos know every inch of Cyprus, and can help you with exactly where to go and what to see, depending on your preferences. For example, we visited a local organic farm (“Riverland” – a proper working farm with every conceivable animal, a very nice café and exciting play area - perfect for children), learned about bee-keeping and dined very well at a variety of tavernas including an extraordinarily fine restaurant serving exquisite Cypriot food. We were introduced to some lovely walks and “undiscovered” beaches. Our party chose to make shorter excursions because we had young children, but guests could spend plenty of days walking directly from Aperanti, either on walking tours or under their own steam.

Wow - I'm not sure I can put into words our recent experience at Aperanti Agrotourism because it is difficult to describe the wonderful atmosphere at this accommodation and our lovely hosts' incredible kindness to share their love of Cypriot culture, food and history.

Sara and Tassos bought and renovated an old village house in Pera. They managed to do this by keeping the traditional style, yet making it modern and comfortable. The The result is very special and stunning.

The hosts prepare meals with local ingredients from their farm. As each portion is served, they explain to each diner what it is made from and the history of the dish. Many of their Cypriot dishes are made by Tassos' mother, here in the village. We happened to visit during Greek Easter, so we enjoyed many special dishes for the holiday and were even taught the game played Easter Morning in Cyprus with hard boiled eggs. (see photo) Make sure you have their gourmet dinner and if you do, don't eat lunch that day! :-)

This was our fifth visit to Cyprus, but the first time we were really able to learn about local culture, history and politics (a subject that is many times taboo!)

Sara and Tassos are avid hikers as well as animal and nature lovers. With their guidance, we went on several wonderful hikes in the area which we would have never known about. For other guests they helped plan drives through villages in the Troodos mountains.

Just to give you an idea about how far these amazing hosts go to care for their guests-
they not only prepared a handmade map of the area for us, but because many places would be closed during the Easter holiday, they checked out each restaurant and market in the area and wrote down on the map the hours each would be open to make sure we would not end up hungry!

The location is good for visiting both Nicosia and the Mountains. It is only a 20 minute drive to the Machairas Mountains. Sara and Tassos can also help you plan a trip to Northern Cyprus.

This accommodation is probably best for those who are traveling with a car.

Dear Helen,

thank you so much for leaving us a positive review. It was our pleasure meeting you both. We truly enjoyed our chats about hiking, nature, culture, politics and more... It makes us happy to meet hikers like us as we really believe that Cyprus is a real paradise for hiking but, unfortunately, it hasn' t been advertised as such and maps/information available are poor. We are doing our best to give detailed advice/directions to our guests for beautiful hiking routes in our area (or other parts of Cyprus) so that more people could discover the hidden treasures of the island and with the hope that one day Cyprus will be a better known hiking destination!

We hope to see you again one day, in Cyprus or maybe for a hike in Israel.

All the best

Sara & Tassos
