“A Little Gem”

Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis Church

A tiny little church with such an unusual history with a double roof structure, it pays to read up a little on the history of the building as there is minimal information at the site. A shame you aren't allowed to take pictures inside, but I can understand why, the painted icons / fresco's are amazing and to think that some of them date back to the 11th century, astonishing.

It's a little difficult to find the route of it, because from the outside we see only soccer field and sport facilities. Also there is only us there.
30 minute is enough for photographing if you want to have a peep, I would say that it's nothing too special for an atheist.

Worth visiting if you have a car and are in Kakopretria. Lovely frescos inside, bright colours. 15th century 'extra' roof is quite unusual.

Very nice church. History was interesting. Our guide gave us information about the beautiful paintings. The entrance was free.

We got there just before it closed, and the woman was nice and stayed for a few more minutes as we looked around. Beautiful paintings inside. Recommend.
