I stayed here for a week's break with my mum at the end of March and we cannot praise this hotel highly enough. The staff are so friendly and accommodating especially Charles and the front desk team. The staff in the Penny Black bar are fabulous too, always smiling and chatting to you, they even charged my phone for me when we were waiting to go back to the airport. The bar food and drink are very reasonably priced and actually cheaper than the bars in the town which is unusual for hotel prices. There is a gift shop in the hotel, which sells a wide range of gifts and beats the town prices too. We only stayed on a bed and breakfast basis as we like venturing out of the hotel and eating in different places at night but the food when we did have lunch at the hotel and dinner one evening was good. The restaurant staff at breakfast were always helpful.

The rooftop pool is lovely and although I wasn't brave enough to go in, it was pleasant to sit on the roof and enjoy the panoramic views, which take some beating.

Our room was on the 7th floor and very handy for the indoor pool, gym and spa. I had a fantastic facial in the hotel spa. Staying on the 7th floor was handy too as it is the adjoining corridor to the sister hotel The Palace so easy access to their facilities and and is actually easier to go out their lobby to walk down to the harbour, it also meant I could use their free wi-fi!

The room itself was very comfortable, slightly dated but who cares, the hotel is in the midst of renovation so would love to go back and see the rooms once this is complete. The hairdryer was more or less useless, a bit like a light breeze on your hair so took ages to dry and the spa was directly above our room, so could hear them cleaning and moving around rather early around, 7am but we are early risers anyway. These are the only 2 complaints I have on this hotel and to be fair not major issues at all!

We traveled with Mercury Travel and have nothing but praise for them too, after reading poor reviews of the original hotel we had booked into, they let us change to The Victoria Hotel, no problem at all and we are so glad we did. From airport pick-up to the excellent rep, Jonathan, they provided a service that tops any holiday company we have used in the past.

All in all, a great holiday was had and staying at The Victoria most definitely contributed to this.

Apologies for late review we stayed for 8 days over the xmas period, upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome by the friendly reception staff who quickly checked us in and directed us to our room. This service continued for the rest of our stay all the hotel staff and I mean all were magnificent the standards of the housekeeping staff was excellent our room was kept like a palace. The food and service in the restaurant again was excellent plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner, we attended the xmas eve and xmas day gala buffets and these were a delight the food was excellent and the staff again did a wonderful job keeping the wine flowing. The hotel facilities are excellent, a well equipped gym and an indoor pool both open nice and early so you can have a good workout before tucking into the big breakfast. For the evening the Penny Black bar is lovely its a relaxing place for a pre dinner drink at reasonable prices, and nightcap or two after our evening walk along the promenade. The Victoria hotel's location is ideal turning left out of the hotel its a short 5 minute walk to the promenade that faces valetta and where you can catch the local ferries to Valetta and buses to Mdina, Buggiba etc. The Point and Plaza shopping centres are easily accessed from the promenade and even if you don't want to buy its worth a look around these centres, the wonderful xmas decorations were stunning. Alternatively if you turn right out of the hotel you join the promenade and have a lovely flat walk to St Julians and if your up to it you can carry on to St George's bay. Having originally booked the Corinthia hotel we did walk up to it and whilst we obviously can't comment on the hotel itself its location confirmed that we made the right decision to stay in Sliema. I would give a special mention to the reception and reservations staff. to often these days when you arrive at a hotel the reception desk is either not manned or if manned the staff rather than leave what they are doing ignore you and let you wait. However this was not the case for Victoria, the reception desk was always manned 24/7 and if we wanted any help or advice we were attended to immediately by the staff. Prior to arrival we had occasion to contact the hotel reservation staff several times requesting information about the hotel and to arrange xmas meal bookings again the staff were excellent in responding in a timely manner so even before we arrived at the hotel we had a warm feeling with regard to the hotel's service. Can't finish this review without a quick mention of the hotel lifts they are wonderful, extremely quick and very reliable well done maintenace staff. Oh yes we have booked to return this xmas.

The Good
The staff were amazing and were always very keen to help. The restaurant and spa facilities were excellent, we used the pool every day! Junior suite was lovely. Fantastic location very close to the strip of cafes. The hotel also had a pasta night which made for a simple night in (the bartenders are fantastic-excellent knowledge of cocktails!)
The Not so Good.
The room was quite tired, and wasn't cleaned particularly well (we found an old bottle under the bed). The balcony was also somewhat useless as the furniture was too big for people to move around. The bathroom needed a serious update.

In spite of these points, I would recommend.

From start to finish of stay ,the staff looked after your every need.
Any problem , no matter how trivial was dealt with efficiently and promptly.
Charles made you feel special and we had excellent service from reception and restaurant staff which made you feel very welcome .
Rooms were comfortable ( was on 7th floor) and had lovely balcony and views.
We ate and had drinks in Penny Black Bar and value for money comes to mind.
Only problem and it is minor - hairdryer was attached to bathroom wall and when switched on screeched and became hot to hold - solution to that is I will bring my own next time :))
Finally our flight was leaving late evening and we were offered luggage storage, a shower room and hotel facilities throughout the day - all for free -can't ask for more !
