“Good sleep at the Nordica”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2012

I stayed here at the end of February for 5 nights.
The good:-
Rooms were spacious and clean.
Service from the staff was excellent.
Beds were very comfortable.

The bad:-
a little out of town (about a 40min walk). This is compensated somewhat as there is a free shuttlebus 5 times a day.

You get a nice view of the mountains if you are on an upper level and facing the right way but other views will mainly be of buildings.
All in all this did everything I needed for the trip as it was a base for a tour every day (staff are very helpful in booking them from the hotel too). Had a good nights sleep and would be happy to use again.
I can't comment too much on value as this was a package deal booked with Icelandair (recommended) so I got a cheaper rate.
Breakfast was ok from their Vox restaurant. Charging any meals to the hotel room nets you a 10% discount

Room Tip: Higher floor (They go from 1-9) gives a better view. Ask for one with view of mountains

This hotel overall is pretty good, however like every Hilton we have stayed at there is always a few things that could be improved.

Overall a good break away mind. The hotel is a bit out of town however this was not a problem for us as we had a hire car and used the hotel as a base.

The VOX Bistro serves good food and the prices are not bad as you get a 10% discount if staying in the Hotel.

The breakfast is generally good, in terms of selection, however if you are into eggs both of the scramble and fried eggs did seem to be hanging around a while. Other than that the brekfast was good and as the hotel is a fair way out of town I would recommend pre booking as this is usually cheaper than paying when you arrive.

We did have a repeated problem of our door not wanting to open so had our card reprogrammed several times. We could also hear the lift mechanism in room 915 which was the nearest room to the lift area, this did not bother us as we both use air plugs at night.

The consistency issues were that for the first 2 nights we did not get the complimentary water in our room but for the last 3 nights we did. Also the maid did not replace our creamers for our tea/coffee so had to call down for some, these were delivered quickly mind. Very minor overall.

The fridge was empty also on arrival which did not bother us as we brought a bottle at duty free and there is a convenient store just a minute from the hotel if you turn left out of the hotel so you could easily buy mixers or soft drinks at a reasonable price.

All in all a good break away at a clean and nice hotel

Room Tip: Get a room high up and if possible with a view over the city/mountains

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the end of February 2012. We drove from the airport in a hire car and were very happy with the ample car parking spaces available at the front and back of the hotel.

The room was a good size with a comfy bed. I found it odd that the double bed had two single duvets on it but this wasn't exactly an issue. The shower was hot and had decent power. The blinds on the window were not as thick as I would of expected but as it was winter it wasn't really an issue but in the summer months, the room would be well lit all night.

We walked into town once which took 15 minutes or so and we got the shuttle back. We thought this worked out quite well but drove on repeat visits as it was freezing! :-)

We didn't eat at all in the hotel so cannot comment on that aspect. For those who like KFC, there is one around 5-10 minutes walk in the opposite direction to that of the city.

For those who book excursions from the hotel, specfically the Northern Lights tour, then on a daily basis around 6pm you can find out from the hotel desk if the tour is running or not.

This Hilton hotel provides all that would be expected from a Hilton. The staff were very helpful and the rooms were warm and comfortable. The one problem is that the hotel is a long way out of town. A shuttle bus is provided but with a very limited service. This might be better in summer.

Room Tip: A room on the back of the hotel is better as it is possible to see the mountains and sea. We had an...

We had a great time staying here. Yes, it's not in the center. We walked to the center most days/nights and got a taxi once or twice. It's a 15 minute walk to the start of town. The room was clean and sparse. Wood floors. Modern. The tub was so inviting I think it's the only time I've ever taken a bath in a hotel room. Some things that were disappointing. The shuttle times to and from town simply didn't work out with our schedule at all. And the spa closed really early on certain days. As for the buffet breakfast that costs a lot, it was ok but nothing to rave about. One side of the hotel faces the parking lot and the other side faces the mountains/water for a beautiful view.
