The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was huge, with a full kitchen (full size fridge, stove, dishwasher, etc) full private bathroom, large bedroom, and separate living room area. The hotel was hard to find though, with just a small sign on the door that we missed at first. Check in was quick and the employees are very friendly. Great location, centrally located near attractions and nightlife. Our only problem was that our shower temperature was faulty and the water only came out scalding hot. Maintenance came up and looked at it and it worked briefly then went right back to scalding so we couldn't really use the shower.

For the most part this was a great place to spend the week. My family rented two studios and the 2 br penthouse.
The central location is really convenient for walking to almost anything in Reykjavik, and right in the middle of the tourist area, so restaurants, shops, etc, are all a quick walk away. BUT - on weekends that area is a partier's paradise, so it was loud all night. We had drunks walking up and down the street, talking, yelling, etc, and since our street was a small side-street, it was a favorite spot to pee. Yes, there were many people URINATING in the parking area behind the apartment all night long on Friday & Saturday. So keep your windows closed if you don't want to hear and smell what's going on out there. Weeknights were fine.
The apartments were basically clean and comfortable, though not as well equipped as they could have been (e.g. no microwave in our apartment).
The penthouse was a nice, well-lit, and scenic space, but a bit dangerous... walking in the front door there is a three-inch step up over which we all tripped at least once - my 85 year old Dad took a header and hit his nose on the kitchen counter. This is a really bad design and should be fixed! Also, the barrel style bathtub, though cute to look at, was impossible for my folks to get into - should be replaced. After a few nights they got used to the low sloping ceilings in the bedrooms so were able to stand up without banging their heads.
Communication with management before arrival was terrible. We had an issue with our credit card charge and it took a week's worth of emails and phone calls from us and Booking.com to even reach anybody there. Not much better when we were there. There is supposedly someone in the office 24/7, but it was rare to see anybody working there during the day, and never in the evenings. (In fact, for the first two days there was someone there, Birgir, who was very helpful and friendly, but he was only filling in for someone else and left after our second day - just wanted to give him a shout-out).
And by the way, though the address is listed as Skolastraeti (which I think means "piss here"), the actual entrance is around the block on Thingholtststraeti.. .would have been good info to get before unloading our luggage from the taxi and finding a locked gate.
That all said, I would recommend staying here, and hope that some of the property's problems can be addressed. (I just read in the NY Times that the city is trying to deal with the public urination issue).

Great location right in the middle of Reykjavik - there really is no better place to stay, location wise. The apartments join another property (Apartment K), so it can be a little tricky to figure out where the place is as there is no markings suggesting it's called Home Luxury Apartments. Apartments themselves are quite clean (although the floors could do with a mop/scrub), plenty of linen, and lots of space for 2 people. Beds are mattresses on the floor rather than a proper bed frame, and mattresses appear to be foam (not great if you have a bad back). Annoyingly, the management moved us to the next apartment after one night (we were only there two nights) as they had a booking in the first apartment. As we were checking out (after our second night), it was clear that the first apartment guests checked out after only one night, so we really didn't need to switch rooms - they could have used our second room for the night. We were also told we were provided a €50 refund for our trouble, but this was not delivered. Parking is only available for two spaces, so if you're unlucky to get there after someone else, you need to park and pay on the street (which isn't cheap). In short, great location and an affordable option for those on a budget, but poor management made the experience less than enjoyable.

The guide for the photography tour we were joining of Iceland recommended this place. To be clear, it was clean and functional. Let me emphasise functional; the bathroom was concrete with an open shower. Not sure if there is a better description than 'functional'. The room itself was under another room in what was probably a barn or workshop over the past 100 years. The hotel complex itself is a collection of buildings that have been converted, however from the reception to the actual room was stairs up, down, up, down, laneways that would tax an SAS recruit in the Brecon Beacons. We had bags - that made it a full cardio workout. Reception is not manned, but there is good security in and out. A big surprise was how comfortable the bed was, but we did have to crawl from the end of the bed to the top as you couldn't stand up. I suspect if it was a barn, the sheep wouldn't have complained as much ;)

If you are looking for cheap accommodation in the heart of the city, are short in stature or are 18 years old, then you'll be sold on this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask to view the room beforehand.

First, it is impossible to reach anyone at the desk by phone. A few months before our reservation, we called to ask a question and were told our reservation was cancelled. After two weeks of going back and fourth with the hotel and orbitz we finally settled things. It was done very unprofessionally and was disappointing.

The customer service was exactly the same once we finally arrived. The woman at the office was extremely rude and unfriendly every single day we encountered her. The gentleman during the day shift was very insulting and gave an attitude whenever we asked a simple question or requested a taxi. I have never seen such rude staff at a hotel before. The rooms are not cleaned every day and it is a process to ask for new towels everyday.

The bathroom was not cleaned upon arrival, dirty razor blades and a broken sliding door. The shower does not have a curtain or door. The heater/AC was pretty much useless since it didn't work either.

As for the advantages of this place, it is a great location. You can hang out on the roof and enjoy the harbor views when they had fireworks. You cannot beat the area that it is in. I would recommend finding a hotel somewhere close by but just not this one.

Also a warning, any festivals or races going on, the city will blast music and it will feel like the loudspeaker is inside your room. Outdoor noise comes right in.
