We stayed in the garden annex at the end of March. Apartment was exactly what we were after - basic, but clean and comfortable and a great base to relax in before or after a day in the city. Excellent value for money, too. I was a bit wary as it was cheaper than other similar accommodation, but needn't have worried.

The apartments are close to the Old Harbour area, which has quite a few restaurants and Harpa a little further on. About 10 minutes from the main shopping area (6-7 minutes from the Settlement Museum). Although tour companies/buses don't pick up directly from this location at the moment, there are hotels about 5 minutes away you can go to, so still convenient.

We also appreciated having self-catering facilities, to save a little on food costs (there's a Vindir supermarket about 10 minutes away, and there are a few little supermarkets in the main shopping area too). Kitchen has a two-ring hob, microwave and all the preparation materials and crockery you need. And a kettle of course (vital!).

There's also a comfy bed, sofa and television, small dining table and cabinet with lots of leaflets about Iceland to help plan your trip.

We didn't meet the owner on arrival, but he left clear and helpful instructions about how to get into the apartment, WiFi and so forth. My husband bumped into him a couple of days later and said he was very friendly.

The only thing I would say is that this probably isn't the accommodation for you if you're looking to party in your room/come back loud late at night - it's a residential area and while we didn't hear any street noise from the apartment, you could hear what was going on in the driveway. So you do need to be considerate of your fellow guests and neighbours!

For anyone else, providing you're not after luxury, I'd highly recommend 32 Tungata.

This is an easy to find and reach place in Reykjavik, and city downtown is just few minutes walk from here. Local attractions are also easily accessible by foot, like the city Square, parliament building, a magnificent church etc.
The owner is very helpful and all the instructions were given clearly for us to be able to get in, even in his absence.
The apartment itself is a beautiful property with many floors separately rented out to different groups. We were a group of four friends and we were lodged in the basement with two bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and one toilet. Apartment is well heated with Icelandic hot spring water available and kitchen has a cooking range, oven, refrigerator, coffee maker and cups n dishes available.
It snowed heavily on our second day (most in one 24 hour period since 1935!!) and our hired car, the street and walkway /driveway of the house were in knee deep snow.... But John was there when it stopped snowing to clear our and other guest's walkway so that we could get out.
The toilet door does not get locked though, so other person needs to be aware that someone is in.

Stayed for 4 nights in November in the converted garage

Never met the owner but he left us good instructions.

The kitchen had everything you need in it, although we didn't see the tea, coffee etc behind the curtain on the window.

Bed was very comfortable.

Apartment was very easy to access the city centre and harbour and a short work to the local swimming pool.

For us it was the perfect place to stay

We stayed in the two-bedroom ground-floor apartment. Although the owner was not there to greet us, he left instructions on everything that we needed to know. The apartment is spacious with a lounge and large dining kitchen. Everything you would require was included, e.g. washing-up liquid, towels, tea, coffee etc. This was amazing as in most places where I have been self-catering I have had to bring my own essentials. Although we didn't cook at the property (there are too many nice restaurants to try), the kitchen was well equipped. The apartment is close to the city centre with only a ten minute walk to all the bars, restaurants and shops. We hired a car and there was plenty of space on the road to park. We booked some excursions including the Northern Lights tour. The pick up is located just down the hill from the apartment, less than a five minute walk although be warned, it is an outdoor location so make sure you are dressed appropriately if you being picked up for excursions or getting dropped off with the airport bus.
We will be definitely staying here again!!!

Room Tip: The apartment is down a small flight of steps so it is unsuitable was wheelchair access

This is an apartment build in a garage, one room, kitchen and bathroom. I was surprised how warm was inside, I never had the feeling that once that place was a garage. It was clean, we could find any kind of menage, plates, cooking pans, glases... We never got to know the owner, but everything went perfect.
Also we could park just in front of the house, no problem.
