Out for a fancy fine dining dinner.
I got the vegetarian menu while the other 2 people got the normal meat menu, so we could see the whole deal.
As someone who is very passionate about cooking and using interesting flavors, especially in the vegetarian section, the dinner for me was a complete let down..
The vegetarian dishes were Very bland and one-note throughout the whole experience.. No balance within the dishes, and no exciting variance between meals... The main trend throughout was "some mushy smoked root vegetable with a pickled side". So it just tasted smoky and sour. Nothing salty, nothing spicy, nothing sweet...Just smoky and sour, the whole dinner (even the dessert)... Could have at least played with different textures, but even that was lacking..
The whole thing was just desperately begging for variety.
It is Very clear that the chef is not very knowledgeable about vegetarian food, as it requires extensive specialization and experience. Just removing the meat and throwing in another root vegetable as a substitute isnt gonna cut it.
My suggestion? If you want to try new exciting vegetarian dishes, I recommend just going to either a specialized vegetarian restaurant or a restaurant that uses Asian flavors (they tend to get it right.).
