Clarion Hotel In Helsinki is a very nice place to stay, we came here with our family and three kids, during winter, it wasn’t the best time to come here even though we had a memorable vacation. At this hotel we had two rooms very close one two each other, it was a pity they didn’t have two door-connected rooms. This hotel is kind of minimalistic style and the standard rooms are decorated in their simple Scandinavian way. In the bathroom there are shampoo, liquid soap and cream dispensers, dental and shaving kits as well. The breakfast is organized in their restaurant on the ground floor and they have good selection of everything: salmon, salad, ham, cheesees, fruits, breads, beverages, etc. It can be really crowded on the weekends, one has to considere to wake up earlier enough to get a good table and something to eat, because whenever it is closed, there is nothing left. Something amazing in this hotel is their rooftop swimming pool, which was thermal and still open during winter so people could get in the pool even it was snowing outside. Besides the pool it is a fitness area very well equipped.
At the front desk they were great, very friendly and helpful staff. We had a really nice stay in this hotel and we’re thinking to come back again during Summertime.

Dear PZoll,

Thank you for taking the time to send us your review.

Amazing to read your thoughts following your stay with us during the winter. You're right, it's quite an experience to sit in the pool with your beanie on, when it's -10C outside. Also, our sincerest thanks for mentioning how friendly & attentive the front desk staff were. Friendly, yet professional service has always been one of the cornerstones of Clarion Hotels, we're so happy you thought so too.

We can't wait to have you back, when your travels bring you to Helsinki again.

Kind regards,

Very friendly and cheery welcome at reception.
Very easy to get to from the airport and into the city, even till late.
On the top floor: well equipped little gym with nice TechnoGym machines, water, towels. As well as Sauna with city views, and a semi-outdoor pool and relaxation area.

Room
We were offered and accepted a paid room upgrade for a lower rate on arrival, promising nicer views and a better room. However, the only thing you pay more for is the view – which was really very nice, across the harbour area and the whole city.
Apart from that, super tiny but very nicely decorated room (as is common in city hotels), too little space to live out of a suitcase, too small wardrobe to put all clothes in there.
Generally clean, just incredibly dusty throughout (no fun if you're slightly allergic).
No complimentary water, only powdered milk for your tea or coffee, no sanitary kit in the bathroom, awfully big lamps on the bedside table, taking up all the space available.
Cleaning service was a bit hit and miss – some days nothing much had been done in the bathroom, as everything was exactly as we left it; rubbish that we forgot on the bedside table was also still there; one day cups were not cleaned.
BUT, really good sleep on the big beds and super comfy Charles Eames Lounge Chairs in the room as well as in the lobby.

Breakfast
Generally, the breakfast was okay - but it could be so much better, if they just managed to organise things better.
The restaurant felt crammed, unorganised, people running around everywhere, even kids with bobby cars. Either we were always there at rush hour, or the restaurant is just too small for the number of guests they have. Service was taking too long to clear empty tables to make them available for new guests.
Very good selection of fresh fruits and veg, but only two different cheese and ham options. Cooked buffet options included the usual scrambled (those ready-made squeeze-from-a-tube things) or boiled eggs, sausage, beans and hash browns.
They close the curtain around the buffet exactly at closing time, which left us feel a bit unwelcome.

Dear kris1138,

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. It will definitely help us on our way to better service.

It was great to read you enjoyed your time with us for the most part. You're right , room cleanliness is of utmost importance and we should've done better. I apologize, we'll be learning from this. Also, I appreciate your insight regarding breakfast, we're working on making it more organized & welcoming.

Hope to see you back, if your travels bring you to this part of Helsinki.

Kind regards,

The hotel is new and very fresh. I unfortunately got a room at the 8 floor and missed the nice view. I still sampled the view from the sky bar and it’s great if you get a high floor. The room was average size and with a big tv. Only on Swedish Chanel made me a bit disappointed. The breakfast was great with a huge selection the only disturbing thing was that it was full with German elderly cruise passengers taking over the place, but you can’t blame the hotel for that. My only negative experience is price on drinks food and snacks, 0,5l of still water cost 4€ not a huge issue when you can drink from the tap but it shows the price level.

Room Tip: Get a high floor and room facing the harbour

Once upgrading we got a room with an unbelievable view.

Timetables on their website were wrong and we didn't get to swim. After calling reception we were told we should have double checked from the reception during check in and basically it is our fault we believed their website. Naturally they were somewhat apologetic, but the basic gist of the call was there. Room was amazing, but the mood was ruined by the terrible customer service we received. We then spent the evening in the tub located in our room, which was nice.

The quality of the breakfast was disappointing for the price, some of the "fresh" vegetables weren't so fresh. We went downtown to a caffee on esplanadi to eat better food.

Dear Juuso K,

Thank you for taking the time to review Clarion Helsinki.

I'm really sorry if the service was not on the level we pride ourselves of offering. Friendly & professional customer service means everything to us and I apologize if it wasn't so. Of course it's not your responsibility to ask if the information on our website is correct, we should make sure it is and also to inform our guests on arrival regarding various facilities & opening hours.

Kind regards,

We really liked this new stylish design hotel - also the location in the west harbour in Summer is nice. You can have nice walks in an new evolving area in Helsinki, including nicely rebuilt factory area (location of foto museum). The hotel has a great view - either from the sky bar or from the pool area and the sauna (!). Don’t miss the pub opposite to the hotel. (Much more cosy than hotel bar or restaurant .) The only thing we did not like was the hotel restaurant: because of very rigid breakfast time and limited helpfulness when asking for dinner. But there is a very nice Nepalese restaurant close by!!
