Service is outstanding, and food delicious. What was nice was having a regular menu, and a game menu.

The Calvados duck breast was excellent, as was the cabbage accompaniment.

Add to this beautiful architecture, and you cannot go wrong!

During our visit of Helsinki we had lunch in one of iconic restaurants in city which is placed in beginning of Helsinki’s “champ de lose” . The restaurant established in building which was build in 19 century .Interior design is traditionally rich. Service was friendly and professional. We ordered traditional salmon soup, fish with clams sauce and fried liver with mashed potatoes. Everything was really tasty, however prices a little bit high., but it worth it.

Had a reservation and was seated promptly, then the problems began. Wait staff seemed confused as to who was in charge of our table as multiple servers worked for us. We ordered wine and were pressured to order food without even looking at the menu. We ordered about 5 minutes later. I had a 3 course beef dinner and my wife had a main and dessert ordered. Over 1 hour later an amuse-bouche was sent out of the kitchen to apologize for the delay. It was good. We then again waited another 15 minutes for my appetizer. The main course arrived another 15 minutes later, so now we’re here 90 minutes and finally getting our entree. My wife had the “famous” salmon soup. It was mediocre at best. I had a tenderloin cooked medium rare with bordelaise sauce. The sauce was good but the steak was tough and chewy. It was very difficult to cut with a serrated knife. Our desserts arrived, my wife having a chocolate cake with berries and I had crème brûlée with berries. The cake was very dense without any finesse. My crème brûlée was very average. Then another 15 minutes for the bill. In all 130 minutes in this place. Granted, there were a few big parties in the restaurant, but it is quite large. But… the level of service is very poor. Coupled with mediocre food quality and the premium pricing, this restaurant if very disappointing.

We were a group of 21 persons who was looking for a chambre separée to hold a dinner.
We found Kappeli.

Kappeli is a beautiful restaurant on the Esplanade and in their basement they do have a separée room.
Our company was treated with a three course menu. For some a fish/meat menu. For some a vegetarian menu. And for some an adjusted menu due to allergies/intolerance.

We were so impressed by the professionality of the restaurant and the staff that arranged an impeccable serving of all those menus. Not for a moment with hesitation and everything served just right. And in time and swift.
Everyone in the group were impressed by the kitchen and the floor staff.

So, Kappelis arrangements for groups in their cellar room is highly recommended!
