Our recent visit to Restaurant Nokka in Helsinki was a combination of culinary delight and some service disappointments. We had the tasting menu "Nokka," and despite the high quality of the food, there were several issues with the service that detracted from our overall experience.
1) Lack of Wine Knowledge: Our waiter was unable to provide information about the presence of orange wine on the list and simply suggested we go through the list ourselves. For a restaurant of this level, better knowledge of the wine list is expected.
2) Inconsistent Timing: There was no waiting time between the amuse-bouche and the appetizer, making the start of our meal feel rushed. Conversely, the wait for the entree was unreasonably long. In addition, the mousse of the appetizer was served ice cold, which was somewhat off-putting.
3) Premature Cleaning: Even though we had a dinner reservation and were seated outdoors, the staff began cleaning the terrace and removing pillows from chairs, including from our table, while we were still enjoying our dessert. This gave us the impression that we were being rushed out, which was quite disappointing.
4) Lack of Attention to Wine Service: Our waiter took away an empty wine glass without offering a refill, which felt inattentive and contrary to the level of service expected at such a place.
While we enjoyed the creativity and variety of flavors of the tasting menu "Nokka", the service issues we noticed affected the overall impression and experience.
