It was funny to arrive to the hotel by a tram-line, which we use every now and then. On the other hand it is also true that the hotel is situated in an area where we do not visit very often.

Of course we knew that the old prison had been renovated into a hotel a few years ago, but this was our first visit there. It was a pleasant surprise to see how well the modernization had been carried out but leaving still some memories from the past. Especially the central corridor is very impressive.

We had a junior suite, which was was situated in a previous library room, which probably explained that the room had a large window. As you can expect from an old prison, the views from the window were not very impressive. In this case it was to the backyard. The room contained all necessary conveniences plus as an extra a tiny sauna, Due to our limited understanding, we had problems with operating the lights.

The service was very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast-time was divided into four three quarter sessions due to corona. The food selection was mainly normal but variety of teas was abundant. Another extra was the possibility to have fresh omelettes on request.

I do not know how, but our reservation was only for the room and did not include the breakfast. The price for breakfast is not very high, but however this is a slight difference from most hotels.

Hei kariheikki,

Toivottavasti tulette lusimaan uudestaankin.

Ystävällisin terveisin,

Hotel Katajanokka is a carefully restored historic building.

Part of the Marriott chain, it is professionally run and 100% reliable.

In a quiet but close to central part of town, the No. 4 tram stops right by the entrance.

Check-in was a little slow, otherwise no complaints at all.

Recommended.

This hotel is a former jail from the 19th century. It was opened as a hotel in 2007.

The hotel is located quite near to Viking Line Terminal. We had the next morning a cruise to Tallinn.

This time we booked the least expensive Classic Twin room for 116 euros. It was a flexible Marriott Bonvoy member rate including breakfast.

Our room was stylish and quite practical. The biggest problem was the desk chair that didn't fit under the desk. We hit at least ten times our toes to it while walking past.

The breakfast was pleasantly calm and the food selection was good.

The reception staff was very friendly.

Everything works great together in this a former county prison from 1837. The prison was in function until 2002 and turned to a hotel in 2007. Still today it is very easy sense and see the history as a prison. Rooms are great with old fashion windows and 3feet thick walls. You can also visit two original “Dungeons” one as been used for groups and another for solitary confinement. Food is fantastic! Staff knows the history! We enjoyed :)

Moi Samuli,

Kiitos palautteestasi. Mukavaa, että pidit hotellista ja siitä tavasta jolla se on vanhasta vankilasta muokattu. Nykypäivänä tänne on varsin ok tulla takaisin, toivottavasti tuletkin.

Hyvää joulun odotusta!
