When I visited Ateneum it had art which everybody understands and the museum is very big also. Nice little cafeteria as well and a store you can buy books etc. - right in the down town area.

A great selection of Finnish paintings and a good standing collection.
Watch out for the exhibitions which covered Lapland (for example) last time we went.

We were lucky to attend a temporary exhibition about Laplandia and Lapps. But in general the museum is very small and poor. You're charged 10 euro for a place that can be walked round within 1 hour. In comparison a ticket to the huge Hermitage in Saint Petersburg costs 4 euro.

You can admire here the Finnish masterpieces from Gallen-Kalella, Edelflt, Scherfbeck, etc
Also paintings of van Gogh, Gaugin, are part of the exhibition

I spent the afternoon here, and only left because I had plans to meet people.
The Magic of Lappland is currently on show - well worth a look. The general exhibition is also worth looking at - one of Vincent Van Gogh's last works from his final days is on show, along with Picasso.
The Lithography exhibition is also fantastic.
Have a bite to eat and a coffee in the cafe then continue in the museum.
