Good location

Review of Hotelli Finn
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 9 Apr 2024
Stayed 1 night in this hotel before going up to the lapland. Hotel location is good: Close to shopping centres and there is a variety of cafes nearby as well. Within walking distance to the Central Station as well, so that's a big plus.
No issue with the hotel room, and the service is satisfactory

This was mainly used as a stop-over for our next flight out the next day. We ended up arriving later than expected due to weather issues form Rovaniemi to Helsinki. We arrived a little before midnight and the reception desk was already closed for the evening. There was a sign to call for assistance and they were able to provide us with a code to enter the building and retrieve our keycards. Seemed very self explanatory, but in the early morning when you're already tired from flying, this can see very frustrating. We happened to be on the 5th floor and you can still hear the thumping of the night clubs below. Luckily we arrived late, as the clubs would eventually close a couple of hours later.

The rooms themselves are a bit interesting, they felt like hostel living quarters. But considering how expensive Finland is, the price is right in this situation. Not exactly sure this is where I would want to stay if it were for multiple days, but it was doable for a night.

As for the surrounding area, we briefly looked up places to eat, but because we arrived late, we were unable to venture out. It seemed as though there are lots of good places to eat and that was the original plan, but plans change unfortunately.

Lastly, the elevator is quite small. If you have 3 people and luggage, be prepared to squeeze, otherwise you will need to take multiple trips.

If you need a nice low budget hotel with a great location then this is your choice. Our room was standard twin. Room was nice, clean, simple and spacious. Bathroom was renovated and had underfloor heating. Beds were good to sleep in. Staff was friendly. The view was to the inner courtyard and it was quiet at least when we stayed in. There isn't breakfast but you can get one at a discount from the nearby cafes. Only problem was that it was a little cold in the room and i needed two blankets when sleeping (but i am always cold so..). Outside temperature was only a little under zero so i wondered how cold would it be when it's much colder outside. But overall we stayed there for one night and we were very satisfied. Would definitely come again. We didn't take photos but the hotel photos in the sites are pretty accurate.

I got the superior double and definitely was better than the standard room, a lot more space and beautiful bay windows to sit and watch outside. There was no tea and coffee sachets in the room which would've been a nice touch rather than having to go down 6 floors to get coffee (as there is a kettle in in the room...). They also have lockers for storage too which was really helpful. Staff were nice and the location was really good. A downside was there was a lot of noise from other rooms through the day and night so bring earplugs!

Hotel Finn is located in a art-deco apartment-building transferred into a hostel at 0.4km walking distance of the Helsinki railway-station. The very simple hotel offers 37 rooms over 5 floors. The no-frills decoration & furniture provides an insipid atmosphere. Reception closes at 22:00. Complimentary tea & coffee in the lobby. No breakfast and good Wi-Fi. Staffs are friendly.

Our very small room was sparsely furnished and decorated, with an OK single bed, tea & Nescafé facility, desk & chair, and flat-screen TV on the wall. Window can be opened in safety mode. We had small separate bathroom with toilet, washbasin & shower. All was clean.

Rooms facing the pedestrian street get free noise from the bars and pubs downstairs. Rooms facing the courtyard enjoy a very noisy air-ventilator. You have to sleep with the window closed. For breakfast you are referred to nearby cafés. When you seek hostel comfort in a no-nonsense hotel, Hotel Finn is the place for you.

Room tip: Bring your earplugs when you want to sleep with the window open

Great location not too far from central station. Elevator only fits one person plus bag at a time but that was fine. Rooms were a great size and very comfy. Really quirky wallpaper added a bit of character. Lots of good eateries nearby but didn't get any noise from them. No luggage storage made for a fight at the train station but otherwise a really great stay
