Myself and partner stayed here for 3 Nights between Christmas and new year. Ivalo is a very small town, but the hotel is conveniently located to the large supermarket over the road and a few other shops & restaurants around a 5-10 minute walk away. The airport is also only a 10 minute drive away.
We booked all of our activities in advance (Husky sledding, snowmobile safari, ice fishing, ice karting & hunt for northern lights) through club nord, which is based at the hotel Ivalo around a 15 minute walk away. However, you can also book activities through the reception team here at Kultahippu (we didn’t know this until we arrived)
We stayed in the new annex building and had a private sauna in our room with a balcony overlooking the frozen river. The only real issue being that the temperature of the room is centrally controlled, and we found the room to be a little too warm. To combat this, we opened the window of the balcony; the balconies are enclosed and adjoin the neighbouring rooms with open tops so any noise made echoed loudly along the row of balconies and in through the open window. We did also find the pillows a little uncomfortable.
We thought that the restaurant food in the evening was limited on choice and quite overpriced, it tasted ok but nothing special.
Breakfast offered a decent continental option.
Although we knew the karaoke/club nights were happening on a Friday and Saturday nights (11:00pm - 4:00am) they didn’t cause us any disruption.
The hotel also arranged for an early morning (4:45am) taxi to take us to the airport.
The staff here were all attentive and friendly.

I stayed in a mini suite. Very spacious, plenty of room to move about and for luggage. Staff always polite, timely and friendly and room was always cleaned nice and early if wanted. Reception very friendly and helpful. Breakfast provided in rate and very generous mix of continental and buffet. Centrally located with a supermarket across the road and major bus station about 400 metres away. There was only one thing that let it down. On Friday and Saturday nights there is karaoke or similar. When trying to enter the main reception area about midnight on a Friday night, it was full of drunks, people stumbling about and could hardly walk they were that drunk. It was also packed full of them, so there was no choice but to meander through them to head toward room. Otherwise, highly recommend the hotel, would stay there again and well done to a very friendly and professional team.

We stayed here one night and it was absolutely fine. Staff friendly, food very good in the restaurant and would recommend it for a short stay. Not much going on in Ivalo but big supermarket to wonder around

Ivalo is a small town, staying close to the market is highly recommended. Kultahippu is right in front of the Lake (which looks beautiful when it's frozen). The hotel offers all possible amenities. One of us was vegetarian, hence finding variety in the menu was a challenge. But there are restaurants nearby which offer plenty of veggie options. The supermarket is right opposite the property, so you are sorted on all fronts. Try Pubi.fi - the best restaurant in town. Anjan Pizza is a good option too

Limited veg menu options, despite reminding the property of it's importance

Room tip: 10 minute walk from the main bus stop

We stayed here for one night before heading back to Helsinki. The room is tidy. A construction work is underway opposite of the hotel. We arrived at around 1pm and it's not the hotel's check-in time, but the reception is so nice to arrange the room for us and gave dining advise, also help us to book aurora hunting tour. And so lucky we can see fabulous light that evening.

The breakfast is included and it's great! Highly recommended if you are looking for a simple hotel, and it's value for money.
