Myself and partner stayed here for 3 Nights between Christmas and new year. Ivalo is a very small town, but the hotel is conveniently located to the large supermarket over the road and a few other shops & restaurants around a 5-10 minute walk away. The airport is also only a 10 minute drive away.
We booked all of our activities in advance (Husky sledding, snowmobile safari, ice fishing, ice karting & hunt for northern lights) through club nord, which is based at the hotel Ivalo around a 15 minute walk away. However, you can also book activities through the reception team here at Kultahippu (we didn’t know this until we arrived)
We stayed in the new annex building and had a private sauna in our room with a balcony overlooking the frozen river. The only real issue being that the temperature of the room is centrally controlled, and we found the room to be a little too warm. To combat this, we opened the window of the balcony; the balconies are enclosed and adjoin the neighbouring rooms with open tops so any noise made echoed loudly along the row of balconies and in through the open window. We did also find the pillows a little uncomfortable.
We thought that the restaurant food in the evening was limited on choice and quite overpriced, it tasted ok but nothing special.
Breakfast offered a decent continental option.
Although we knew the karaoke/club nights were happening on a Friday and Saturday nights (11:00pm - 4:00am) they didn’t cause us any disruption.
The hotel also arranged for an early morning (4:45am) taxi to take us to the airport.
The staff here were all attentive and friendly.
