I booked a trip to Ivalo and decided to stay here based upon reviews here. I am so glad I did! I was picked up at the airport and taken to the resort, which was a 15 minute drive away. Once I arrived, Suvi at reception checked me in. She was so welcoming and friendly, that I felt at home straight away. She told me to download a free Northern lights app and gave me a code, which gave me 3 days access to alerts if the lights were visible. She then showed me where my cabin was on the map and I went to went to put my bags away before my Northern lights tour. The cabins are absolutely stunning-even better than the pictures!
I did a few activities while I was there:
The first was chasing the Northern lights by car. We drove to a location 40km away from Ivalo and we were lucky enough to see the lights. Vitally kept our spirits up while we were waiting for the lights and got some amazing pictures, which I will treasure forever. The hot berry juice at the end was a nice touch and much needed after standing in the cold for a while.
Liisa took me on a snowshoe walk through the forest under the auroras and fatbiking. It was an absolutely magical experience walking though the snowy forest with the auroras above me. Ida took me cross country skiing and it was absolutely surreal skiing on a frozen river. I didn’t stop laughing the whole time.
I also did the 2 hour husky tour, which is provided by Extreme Huskies. Another magical experience!
Breakfast and dinner is provided everyday and if you have an early checkout and are going to miss breakfast, they give you a voucher to get breakfast at the airport instead. I definitely appreciated this!
I had the most amazing time at Aurora Village and I was so upset to leave. I want to thank Suvi, Vitally, Wella, Liisa, Ida, Nina and Aron for ensuring that I had a holiday that I will never forget! I hope I can come back soon!More
