Traveling with a friend thru FInland by car, one thing we wanted to do was stay in a cottage by a lake- but also have some comforts of home (e.g. warm meals made for us!). We ended up staying here three nights. A main reason is the hotel itself- this family-run hotel has a number of different buildings and sleeping arrangements scattered on shores of a lake. The rooms were wonderful (try to get one that faces the water). The restaurant has tables inside and outside, so you can pick where you sit. They have saunas, bikes to use, and a rowboat to take out on the lake. The family is extremely friendly and helpful. And all these amenities aside, you also can enjoy some alone-time and relaxation.
The location was another reason I recommend it- the Punkaharju area is naturally breathtaking with the water and eskers. It's a good place from which to explore the lake region.
