We had a little difficulty finding Gunter's as it's a cabin on a long road. When you arrive, there WILL be a queue. You will wait. After ten minutes you will move a foot. People arrive in cars and collect telephone orders. You will look at your watch. Is it worth the wait? Trust me, it is! You then arrive at the menu board which displays two dozen different sausage types in glorious technicolour.......Oh, and a very anaemic vegetarian sausage. But you haven't come to Gunters for the veggie option have you? You choose to have 1 or 2 sausages in your baguette. I recommend 2 for the difference in price, but choose two different varieties. Hungarian Bratwursr, Thuringener, Chorizo, Kabana? All of Europe's finest are on display. After a couple more minutes, you finally see Gunther, a lovely fellow who speaks little English, but knows his food. You place your order, step back and wait. Eventually, it's your turn. Gunter summons you back. He thrusts two gleaming sausages into half a baguette, adds the optional sauerkraut, offers you dozens of different relishes and then presents you with what will very likely be THE best hot dog of your life. You sit on the wall a few yards down the road and you enjoy this incredible taste sensation.
If Carlsberg did hotdogs...........

Swedish colleagues took me to this hot dog stand. Amazing variety of hotdogs and sauces, a real gastronomic experience. Chose a chorizo sausage in half a baguette with all the dressings etc. You queue up in the street and then we sat on the wall nearby to eat them. Cash only.

All types of international sausages avaliable. Gunters is know by Leif GW Perssons books about that sausage loving chief of Police earlier mentioned. I think the best one is a double Türinger wurst mit sauerkraut. The only drawback could be the queue during some periods of the day.

So, I went to Gunter's quite a few times as I was staying around the corner for a few weeks - oblivious to the fact that that this is supposed to be "the best hot dog in Sweden".

Their dogs are presented slightly differently from the norm, as they are really a cross between a french hot dog and a panino: the "bun" consists of a hollowed out half-baguette that is put briefly through a sandwich grill. I'm not totally sold on this concept - it makes for a crunchy, somewhat greasy bread, which doesn't quite work for me.

Sausage-wise, the choice is vast. You can go for a single or a double, and if the latter, you can can mix and match sausages (I hear kabanos is their most popular). They are not bad...the thing is, they're just not that much different from what you'll find at many other hot dog stands in Stockholm! Good, but in no way mind blowing.
A pesto-like sauce (and, optionally, a spicy sauce) is part of the mix.

All of this combines to form an offering that is decidedly on the greasy side, which can make you feel a bit sick afterwards.
Unfortunately, there is nothing to balance the greasiness and saltiness of it all (pickled cucumber, onions, etc would have been good).
In fact, there are practically no "sides" on offer to customize your dog. Disappointing.

Another big minus is that they cook the non-pork sausages (like the merguez or the sucuk) in the same grill as everything else.
So if you can't have pork for whastever reason, I'd advise you to stay away. My partner had her pork meat allergy triggered when having a merguez dog from Gunter's.

All in all, Gunter's Korv offers filling, good value, but ultimately unbalanced hot dogs. If this is "the best in Sweden", it is really a bit sad. I have to admit I don't quite get the cult following this place seems to have.

Great variety of hot dogs, served in a grilled baguette and Gunther's home made chili sauce. Mind the queue as this is probably the most popular Hot dog stand in Stockholm, and make sure to either arrive just before lunch time (12 pm) or later, at 13-14pm.
