Owner description: Jamtli offers an exciting journey through the history of Jamtland and Harjedalen. Here you will discover stimulating milieux and enjoy being part of history. The museum has permanent exhibitions about the region's past alongside temporary exhibitions of arts and handicrafts. Some exhibitions take up current matters of public interest and explore them from an historical perspective. Every summer, the open air museum turns into Jamtli Historieland (living history theme park). The historical buildings come alive with history and role plays, where visitors are drawn into eventful and playful stories from 1785 until 1975. Jamtli Historieland enables you, as a visitor, to associate with the actors who bring to life and portray people from the past. Jamtli gives access to our regional heritage and provides a place where we can discuss our values and life-styles, then and now. Jamtli gives you the opportunity to make the most of your visit. Perhaps you would like to bring your own picnic basket and spend your time relaxing in the stunning parks. Or you might want to meet the actors, such as Astrid and Sture who farm the Per Albin-torpet (The Smallholding) from 1942? Or you may be fascinated by the 1,000-year-old tapestries, "The Overhogdal Tapestries". You choose, so bring your whole family, your friends, your company employees or just come on your own to an enjoyable, entertaining and magical museum where you can see, touch and act!

Most often, Jamtli offers exhibitions worth a visit. So at the end of summer, it feels a bit like the the open air museum plant goes down a bit, with the exception of cafe, shop and museum. However, it is pleasant to walk around among historic buildings that however are closed.New extensions of the area are ongoing, however, I do not know if the cottage built down to the Stoprsjön feels like it should belong to Jamtli.

This is truly a wonderful museum. The outdoor collection of buildings from many eras is astounding. The indoor exhibits are so child friendly and lifelike. You must visit this museum and you must have a few hours to spare.

Jamtli is awesome. It's just really, really great.

- They have a huge outdoor section that is basically an entire village. During the summer, the buildings are filled with actors wearing period-fitting clothing performing various activities typical of the time - you'll see people making food, clothes, etc. There's a bunch of farm animals you can pat. Small shops selling cool souvenirs, local foodstuffs, crafts, etc.

- The Christmas market in the winter is amazing. It's similar to the summer in that there will be a bunch of actors wearing period clothing, and you can do a ton of fun activities, like sledding, and on top of that buy mulled wine to sip on as you wander around the various shops and stalls filled with local crafts.

- The indoor museum is made to a very high standard. The whole place is modern and well thought out.

- The café has great lunches.

- Restaurang Hov, a restaurant on the premises, is a pricier establishment with decent food.

- I gotta repeat, the outdoor section is HUUUUUGE, and is really fun for kids. There's tons of stuff to look at and play with. In the dairy house there's all sorts of toys for them to play at being cheesemakers. Cute animals to look at and pat. Several play areas. You can watch sheep getting sheared and help to make wool.

- In the winter, the outdoor section is open for free, and is a nice place to take a walk and look around-.

There are numerous little "outdoor museums" - or villages, it turns out, across Sweden. Jamtli was on our list however, as one of the bigger ones, near my wife's ancestral lands, and with personnel reenacting in the outdoor area. Plus, we visit these outdoor living museums across Europe. Although unfortunately we arrived days before the summer staffing of the outdoor area, the stroll through the outdoor area (free) was very pleasant. Moreover, we spent a couple of hours easily in the indoor museum with audioguides. The indoor museum itself is really quite impressive and extensive. Some of the holdings (such as the tapestries, rivaling the Bayeux tapestry in Normandy) are incredible. It should really take 2 or even 3 visits to learn all you can from this museum, which has different sections/themes. We'd like to have seen the activities offered at the outdoor museum when offered during high season of summer.

Interesting and good local museum. A good stop with a classic museum and an outdoor museum. The collections gives a good idea of the prehistoric and historical phases of the area.
