Owner description: This historic castle was constructed on three islands and is surrounded by lake and beautiful gardens. Frederiksborg Castle has housed The Museum of National History since 1878. A tour through the museum's many beautiful rooms is an encounter with kings, queens, nobles, the bourgeois, events, and epochs, which have all shaped the country's history and development from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. The museum was founded by brewer J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg.

It's probably the most lavishly decorated interior I've seen in any castle in Scandinavia. Not withstanding that most of it burnt down in the 1800's. The rooms are arranged according to century and tell you a lot of the kings of the time starting with Christian IV. I was especially impressed by the chapel and the extremely ornamented ceilings in many of the rooms. The castle itself in renaissance is very beautiful and the garden is worth a walk.

The tickets are reasonable, the tour takes in much history and a fine plethora of objects and material for the tourist to enjoy. Staff were friendly, pity the weather was not good! Its a 30 minute train ride at least..from Copenhagen, so be prepared for a long day of walking. You have to get a bus too--I forget which one exactly- but make sure you ask and check that its going in the right direction to the Slot (Castle).

The Danish History Museum is a most fantastic and interesting Museum and yes, it is housed in an old Royal palace called Frederiksborg Slot ( Palace). The Sightseeing Guide was very knowledgeable about many of the items inside and he provided a good balance of topics without bombarding us with too many facts and figures. So I can recommend a Tour with Scandibalt Iscat ~ as it made my day interesting and fun. Scandibalt Iscat is a small private Sightseeing Guide concern for unique Tours

You can reach the Det Nationalhistoriske Museum also known as the Frederiskborg Castle by train. You can take a nice walk through town and enjoy a drink or coffee along the way. There's a small square that offers an amazing view of the castle.
The castle offers an interesting view of Denmark's history. Even though, it offers a chronological collection that includes portraits, historical paintings, furniture, art industry, dresses among others, its layout might seem very confusing. Also, some of the rooms are very cluttered with paintings which takes away from admiring some of the art pieces.
As you enter, you will have to leave your beverages and big bags and be prepared to be harassed by the museum's staffers to keep your purses or small carry-on items in front of you. I guess they have been robbed in the past.
