“Great in the day and relaxing in the evening.”

We've been coming to Palatia for many summers now. During the day we go for their well made coffee and to look back at Naxos Town and the ferries coming and going. It's a great place to watch the world go by and to have a coffee or lunch before going to the beach.

In the evening it becomes a really relaxing, romantic restaurant with the very best grilled fish and octopus. We love to sit and unwind from the day whilst eating some of the best grilled food on the island.

One dish that is not so easy to find is their sun dried mackerel that's called "Gouna". In the day you can often see "Gouna" being dried along with their octopus. That's great because we can see it drying in the day and eat it freshly grilled that same evening! Well done to everyone working at Palatia for making great coffees and the best grilled seafood!

Having walked there during the day and seeing the fresh octopus drying we pinpointed this place for dinner. Great location under the Portara, great views of the port, castle .
No one to greet us to be seated, we had to ask if it was okay to take a seat, slow to come over to take our drinks order, when the guy did finally come, we ordered our food as we picked it was going to be slow for any attention .
Mezes and mains came together, the octopus that we had been waiting for throughout the day, although it tasted nice it was very was poorly presented on the platter. One ten ticket and lots of chips. No greens or tomato as per there presentation. Three waiters walking around but not being attentive to us in any shape or form. It took half an hour for us to get the bill after we asked for it twice.
It's a shame , you should leave a place wanting to return back. Not the case

Sitting here right now, just finished the most delicious anchovies Iv ever had (and Iv had loads) the setting is magic - I can't believe it's not packed! So chilled, right in the water. Have a swim in the Late afternoon then have a drink and a bite to eat after, You won't be disappointed.

Everything was excellent in our three consecutive visits to the venue. The fresh seafood, the friendly service, the spectacular view of the harbour... All 3 bills were around e 35 for 3 dishes, drinks and coffees. We enjoyed fresh calamari, shrimps, mussels and spaghetti. A popular place for locals don't miss it.
