Rethymnon's Old Town is a really cool, laid-back waterfront neighborhood of shops, restaurants, and bars that spans several blocks and is mostly for pedestrians only. The Pepi Studios are nicely located in the middle of old town, so within a few steps of the door you're right in the middle of the action. Yet the rooms are private and quiet.
We stayed in the suite, which was larger than we needed but still quite affordable. The bed was in a upstairs loft, with a large and comfortable living area and bathroom below. A cafe is just next to the main entrance and was our first stop for breakfast and associated people-watching.
Because cars aren't allowed in old town, you have to park a few blocks away in a public parking area. That was the biggest issue we had on arrival because we got to Rethymnon at night. Once we had the parking figured out the rest was easy.
There's a small pool on the property which is great for cooling off, if not really for swimming, and a large patio for sunbathing or reading.
The only drawbacks were the bed, which was not as comfortable as our other hotels in Greece, and the air conditioning, which was a bit anemic in the hot weather we experienced while we were there. But we would still return there happily.More
