Stayed 5 nights in superior sea view room on second floor. Overall, this is a great property. From what we saw driving around, this is one of the best locations in eastern Crete. View of the bay from our room was beautiful. The sandy beaches and swimming area were wonderful. Our room included breakfast and dinner and the meals in the restaurant were very good with friendly staff. Read a lot of reviews of 'not 5 star hotel.' However, definitely recommend this hotel. Only complaints are minor; fitness center hours could be earlier, drinks at the sail-in bar should have been better for the price, and the lunch we had at the sister hotel was greatly over priced. However, the benefits far outweigh the areas for improvement.

We stayed 12 days at Elounda Bay Palace in July.

Our room was with garden view, on 4th floor. For our 10yo child the hotel provided a roll-away bed. Both, ours and roll-away beds were comfortable. Room was equipped also with safe-box, mini-bar, flat TV, sofa, table and chair. As roll-away occupied some space, the room became a bit cluttered. But, anyway we spent most of the day time outside, sunbathing and swiming in the sea and pools.

Provided toiletries were of a very good quality,

Elounda Bay Palace, together with its sister hotel Elound Beach, occupies a big territory. The sunbeds were aplenty, no need to "book" in advance. Though we saw Estonian family "reserved" a set of sunbeds by the pool and, at the same time, set of sunbeds on the beach. However, I have to say, it was rather an exception.

The hotels grounds were well-manicured, clean. Pathway system is well-designed. When one of the guest felt unwell, the ambulance minibus reached almost to his sunbed, thanks to the wide pathways.

The seas were clean, with shallow waters, the beach was cleaned everyday, a lot of sunbeds were available on the beach.

There are a few swimming pools, including the one, very shallow, for toddlers, one with salt water and one, under the roof, with fresh water.

Dining.
We were the guests on half board, the breakfast and dinner included. A few times during our stay we visited the other restaurants of the hotel, too.

Argonaut restaurant. Italian restaurant at Elounda Beach Hotel. Visited this resturant once and left very much disappointed. They did everything wrong that evening. Slow and unprofessinal service by the wait staff. Long wait to get the menue. Food came late, the shrimps in the seafood pasta were frozen, the recipe is not original Italian. Our dinner and mood were were ruined completely. We saw the other guests who were unhappy too. We complained to the restaurant manager, but, obviously he was not controlling the situation there. We learnt later it was his first season in this restaurant.

Upon coming back to Elound Bay Hotel we had a talk with Dimitris, the director of operations. All the restaurants in 2 hotels were under his umbrella. Dimitris knew already (!) about the situation and accepted it was restaurant's fault. The guy is a real professional, we could see it at once.
A complimentary lobster pasta was arranged the next dinner, in Aretoussa restaurant (we didn't want to experiment with Argonaut anymore).

Aretoussa restaurant. Open buffet. The meals, included in room rate, are served in this restaurant. The tables are on the terrass. Fresh air, beatiful views. From time to time they had "thematic" dinners presenting different cuisines of the world (Greek, Asian, Mexican). A lot of varieties, we liked most of them.
Aretoussa management and wait staff were competent, friendly and efficient.

Pasta chef was Manolis. I can tell you, the pasta we had in Aretoussa was one of the best we ever had. Manolis and his team cooked amzing pasta everyday. Real professionals! And the lobster pasta they cooked was just perfect!

Ariadne resturant. Located in 2 steps from the beach. For lunch we were visiting this restaurant. Very fresh and tasty food cooked to order. Seafood, meats, burgers - whatever you like. Wait staff was efficient and friendly.

Thalassa restaurant. We celebrated our marriage anniversary here. Located by the seaside, with amazing sea view, this restaurant is rather expensive. The food was very tasty, however. The food presentation, service were impeccable and wine card was impressive. No reservations to recommend Thalassa restaurant for a special occasion or romantic dinner.

The sommelier at Elounda Bay Palace was Dimitris. We always followed his advice and it was always spot on. Be it wine and food pairing, or simply a gluss of wine in the evening, Dimitris was always right. Thanks to Dimitris, we tried some of the best Greek wines.

Activities and entertainment.
There are water sports (water skiing, paddle board, sofa, etc). Also, there is a divers club located on Elounda Beach territory. You can charter sailing boat or catamaran.

Special word about their sport instructor Vasiliy. This guy is unique. There were a lot of children of very different ages in the hotel. Vasiliy had an approach to them all. Water polo - children couldn't wait for it to start (tipically at 10am). "Mafia" game in the evening, always 10-15 children from 9 to 17yo playing from 9pm to 11pm, and not willing to go to the rooms. The guy is really gifted.

Special thanks to all the staff of Elounda Bay Palace for our perfect vacations!
We can recommend this hotel as a very safe, comfortable place, perfect for families with children!

We were 5 days at the hotel . We paid more than 500 euro per night for big room (35-40) and half board . The room we go was big with nice little garden , but not 5 star : the curtain is old , the Bathroom was smelly , old , and the water press was very low. Not as expected at 5 star hotel .
Our room was noisy because it was near the pool . The room that offer to us instead was smaller .
The pool is nice but old . The beach very nice . The stuff great . Everything is very expensive .
The food is ok . For me traveling with kid it was more easy to eat in e hotel .
It got four stars and not three because they let us stay in the room for really late check out . Very very nice ...

But for this price I would really expect more .

it's nice and quiet resort , in a beautiful place .

Thank you for sharing a review of your holiday experience with the readers of the Trip Advisor website. Your comments shall be taken into consideration when we reassess the hotel during the winter. We shall be refurbishing areas of the hotel were deemed necessary and phasing out some of the room categories as we continue to upgrade the accommodation. Our hospitality is well documented and where it is possible we afford our guests a late room check out. If this is not possible then we provide another room for the guest to use. The family garden accommodation is ideal for families with young children as their individual garden fenced in areas lead directly to the pool and beach area. The food in our buffet restaurant is freshly cooked by the chefs and there is a wide and varied choice which makes it easy for families. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Elounda Bay Palace for another family holiday with us.

We stayed here at the beginning of August 2016 for 10 days half board. The hotel is about an hour from the airport but as you approach it from the road above you can see that it is set in one of the most beautiful areas. The view every day from the gardens or the restaurants is magical.
We were allocated rooms 433 and 425 in what appears to be an unrefurbished block of the hotel. The rooms were clean but spartan and the bathrooms nice but the poor air conditioning in temperatures of 30-35C was appalling and not fit for a 5* hotel. It effectively did not keep the room cool and we were far too hot most of the time. The engineer cleaned the filters but to no effect. I would have to say this marred a lovely stay.
The gardens are lovely and have many mature olive trees under which there is plenty of shade when it's too windy to put up the umbrellas. The main pool is salt water and there is an indoor fresh water pool. There is no complimentary water to drink and a litre of mineral water is priced at €3.50 meaning you are paying out constantly for drinking water which I think should be provided like any hotel in the USA does.
The Wifi is unreliable, patchy and inadequate so you may end up incurring roaming charges.
The food was wonderful. We ate every morning for breakfast and every evening for dinner and because there was so much excellent food and so much variety we ended up eating too much. Very enjoyable and it is obvious they take great pride in their food. One thing though, our travel agent - British Airways Holidays did not warn us that there is a dress code for men at dinner and I only had my jeans and one pair of long trousers with me. If only I'd been told beforehand.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and if they could rectify the wifi and air con then there would be little to complain about.
We would come here again except the airport at Heraklion ruined our journey home with long queues in a non air-conditioned airport and insufficient seating. It's not the hotel's fault though!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay on the Trip Advisor website. Our unique location in the bay of Mirabello with golden private sandy beaches and uninterupted views over the north coast of the island make this corner of Crete one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. We shall be considering your comments when we reassess the hotel, facilities and services during our winter season when we renovate and refurbish before we reopen in April 2017. We have a dress code for all the restaurants in the hotel of smart casual dress which includes long trousers for men. This is a policy that is requested by the majority of our longstanding loyal guests and we regret if you were not informed about this before you came. We would be happy to assist you with any queries about the Elounda Bay Palace and its accommodation and facilities if you should choose to return for another stay and it would be our pleasure to welcome you back.

We have just returned from a week at the Elounda Bay Palace staying in their 2 bedroom Family room with garden view. What a disgrace! Our first room offered a perfect view of the fire escape. Obviously we complained but could not be moved until the following day. Not the start expected when we pay this amount of money and are only staying for 7 nights. The second room was a better view of the mountains and the road and car park. Not a garden view as booked. The rooms were at best 3 star but more like 2 star. They are small and old. The bathrooms are tiny. The air conditioning is less powerful than a small desktop fan and does not even blow out cold air. Not ideal in 100 degree heat. In fact there is no decent air conditioning anywhere in the hotel. The TV is a 14" box TV out of the 1970s. You cannot see anything unless you are standing right in front of it. The balconies are tiny. The balcony furniture is less comfortable than a park bench. The beds are uncomfortable.

One thing I will say is that the grounds are beautiful. The sea is clear and the beach is very clean and private. It is such a shame that a hotel of such poor quality in almost every department should be situated here.

The buffet is below average at best as is the breakfast. The other restaurants are a complete rip off and more expensive than the best London Restaurants. The food offered is not value for money in any way. We asked for either a refund or a discount for the first night in front of the fire escape and waited for most of the week for a call from the manager. Finally we did receive a call but the manager did not even have the courage to speak to us in person. They offered us nothing.

This hotel needs new bedrooms, new air conditioning and a review of the below average food offered.

A quick note to the manager ... if you want repeat guests in your hotel, have the decency to speak to them yourself instead of asking a member of staff to do your dirty work. I paid for a garden view room and did not receive anything of the sort. To say that a room with a view of the fire escape is acceptable is unbelievable.

I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. Avoid at all costs!!

As with 99% of the reviews that are written on this website, we are well aware of this reviewer and his grievances. As we addressed his issues during his stay but informed him that he was not entitled to any form of compensation, the result is the review that is written above. Trip Advisor does give hoteliers the option to block reviewers but we have chosen not to take this option. We would like to state that if you book a certain room category in a hotel and do not want to pay any more for your accommodation then threats to post reviews on online sites will not afford you an upgrade nor sway any decisions we make. No hotel is able to satisfy 100% of its guests but we try our utmost to do so. Every year we renovate a certain number of rooms so eventually upgrading all the accommodation at the hotel. With this we remarket the renovated rooms at a new level and price. We take the comments of our guests into consideration when choosing which categories to phase out and renovate. The Elounda Bay Palace this year had an average of 60% repeater guests at any one time staying at the hotel, this rate of repeating guest is not by chance. We look forward to welcoming all our loyal guests back to the Elounda Bay Palace next summer and remain at their disposal for any assistance they may require when booking their accommodation.

Kind regards,
Manolis Rassoulis
