Like us you’re probably turning to Trip Advisor to try to pick a restaurant from the 300+ on the harbour.

What a harbour though!

We chose Vassiliko based on the fact that it was busy, had a seemingly large amount of locals and had good reviews.

The seafood platter was very good and the waiter was attentive.

Firstly, the service as in many tavernas in Crete was lovely. Friendly and helpful staff. The food was very average. Chips felt a little stale and the fish was just OK, not brilliant, which is surprising as this is aminaly a fish taverna. However we did travel there over the Greek Easter weekend, a tricky time I think for getting fresh fish. Salad was good, decent amount, well priced. So, OK, just nothing to say I would be back. So I probably wont be.

If you like sardines, this is the place to be in town. I really can’t imagne better sardines than these. They are grilled and come with tomato, onion, oil and lemon. Sounds simple, but there is magic in there, placing Vasiliko squarely at the ultimate global peak of sardine exquisiteness. And the place is practically ON the sea. Go here. The other stuff is really good too.

Unpretentious staff and atmosphere with outside tables close to the harbor. Decided to go with two fish specials of the day which we were told were caught that morning by the fishermen sitting at the corner table. The dishes were fabulous and tasted as fresh as we expected. Also ordered sauteed succory which was prepared perfectly. Portions were large enough to fill us but we did have room for the complimentary Raki and dessert

So, we visited this restaurant with some friends on August 2017. Am a Greek living abroad so I have a very specific image of what a traditional fish tavern should be like and I was not let down. The food is very good and the fish is always fresh, caught and grilled by the owners themselves. In the menu one can also find a unique dish called "htapodokeftedes" which is basically small burgers made from Octopus, with a secret recipe of course. Very tasty indeed! Other than that, the owners-pavlos and vaggelis- do a very fine job in coordinating the place and offering a unique experience to the customers.
Dishes I definitely suggest: kakavia, htapodokeftedes and prawn-omelette, each one very special and very tasty. And fish of course!
