“Nice and comfortable place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2011

We stayed in 4 bed dorm in October 2011 for just 1 night. This place is nice and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is close to the train station and acropolis. The bed is comfortable and hygiene (mattress wrapped with plastic to avoid bedbugs). We like the small kitchen in our room. We had our free breakfast at the Athens Sport Bar. Simple and nice breakfast with coffee, tea, toast, jam, butter, cheese, and hard boiled eggs. We would return to this place if we go to Athens again.

We stayed in a 3 bed at Athens Studios for 3 nights. We were initially booked at Athens Backpackers (sister hostel), upon checkin at 11pm we were told we've been 'upgraded/moved' to Studios. No problem, we walked 5 mins to Athens Studios. The room had 3 single beds, small kitchen (sinks, fridge, stove) and a bathroom. It was super and convenient. Breakfast is downstairs to the left in some bar. Includes boiled eggs, toast, cheese, jam, coffee and tea. Orange juice is about 2E. The bar does have happy hour and stream tv/sports shows daily from across the world. I did stop by to catch some nfl football one of the nights. There is always someone at reception providing helpful information. There are walking tours if you'd like. It's 5 mins from Acropolis museum walking, and maybe 10 mins to Acropolis.

The dislikes: Wifi internet is very sketchy and sporadic. There were plenty of times we went downstairs to ask for the status and why it was down. They needed to restart the switch. The showers in the bathroom would make water splatter everywhere but I guess it was the norm in Greece. The beds did not have a steady base to the floor hence if you turn or move a lot on the bed, the entire bed moves. We did find hairs on the floor upon check-in meaning they don't quite do a super job cleaning up. The heater controls didn't work and it was somewhat cold at night.

Overall a great place to be. Comfortable beds, clean rooms, basic breakfast and super reception. It's a more happening place over at Athens backpackers with a Rooftop bar. Head over there to mingle with fellow travelers and a great picture shot of the Acropolis.

Room Tip: Bring your own towels and power adapters for 220v

Good location within walking distance from Syntagma Square and the Acropolis Museum. Simple rooms. Thin walls added extra noise during the night. Wireless internet. Helpful staff with a list of all the current transportation strikes to be aware of. The rooftop Backpackers bar is nearby with a small, but cheap happy hour list and great view of the Acropolis. Breakfast is free but pretty bare...luckily the Everest cafe is down the street. Freddicino...mmmm....

My husband and I stayed at Athens Studios for two nights in September 2011. Once we got over the intial confusion around the difference between Athens Studios and Athens Backpacker (the hostel that runs both Backpacker and Studios), we had a fabulous stay. The studios are basically apartments that you can rent out for the duration of your stay in Athens. They are in a fabulous location, walking distance from Syntagma Square, Acropoli metro station, the New Acropolis Museum, the Acropolis/Parthenon, and lots of places to eat.

There is someone on duty at the reception 24/7 and everyone we dealt with was very helpful. The apartment we stayed in was beautiful and huge! It had the comfiest, coziest bed we've ever stayed in on vacation and the air conditioning was a godsend in 30+ degree weather.

My only complaint would be the shower partition, which didn't block any water and consequently the whole bathroom flooded everytime we took a shower. This seems to be par for the course in Europe, unfortunately.

On the whole, it was a great stay and a fabulous value for the money we paid. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

The apartment was no frills - Ikea furniture, but very clean and well maintained. The location is right near the Acropolis Metro stop and of course right near the Acropolis.
Don't be frightened by the backpacker name. We are a middle aged retired couple and didn't feel out of place.
Our studio was one bedroom, with a separate living room and kitchenette and separate en suite bathroom. The space was more than adequate for the two of us - larger than your standard hotel room.
With a free breakfast (toast, instant coffee, hard boiled eggs, cheese and fresh tomatoes) along with daily maid service, comfortable beds and free internet what more could you ask for.
The staff was very friendly and help us make arrangements for a car to take us to the airport during the transportation strike.
There is a laundromat that is incorporated into their location. We didn't need to use it, but it is very convenient.
There is also an elevator if you have problems with the stairs.
