I've been through Athens many times over the years, and have not found a hotel until AVA that I would put in my address book to stay at again. Rooms were spacious. Service was attentive. Location was very central. We had rooms facing the back which were quiet and allowed for peaceful sleeping. Breakfast was quite good with options including waffles and omelettes, etc. if desired. Overall, this one's staying in my address book when I go through Athens again!

We have stayed at other hotels ranked Number 1 on TripAdvisor and have been disappointed but not this one. It's a short walk from the Acropolis Metro stop to the hotel. Most tourist attractions in the area have a relatively flat or little slope walk from this hotel compared to other areas like by the Roman Agora.

We had an executive room which was a nice size with a separate bedroom (medium-hard mattress). They put a separate bed for the child in the living room thus saving us from the dreadfully uncomfortable sleeper sofa. It was very clean. Honest. One of my biggest pet peeves is dirty carpets where your feet turn black walking from the shower to the bed, but not here.

The small balcony really does have Hadrian's Arch down and the Acropolis up the street. The kitchen area has basic kitchen stuff (plates, cutlery, cups, etc.) small hob/stove but no microwave, refrigerator and a sink. The bathroom has a round recessed light (kid favourite), robes and slippers. The fresh orange juice and waffles were a big hit for my kid who would live off of pain au chocolats (chocolate filled croissants) if I would allow it.

My two little misses on this hotel is: no microwave and the noise from the Plaka on Saturday night can be substantial until around 11:00. The other nights were pretty quiet.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the street have the best view but also noise from the Plaka which can be pronounce on weekends. If this is your only trip to Athens, you'll want the view.

AVA Hotel offered a great experience. We chose the hotel through TripAdvisor reviews and were not disappointed. The staff is extremely helpful and made every effort to ensure our stay was everything a traveler could desire. The location is ideal for seeing Athens--within easy walking distance of the Acropolis, Parthenon, Museums, Socrates' Prison, great restaurants and many other sites. The staff gave us tips on when to visit each attraction and directions on how to find great restaurants that were not overcrowded with tourists. On our next visit to Greece (and we will most definitely return) we will certainly stay in this fine hotel. By the way, the morning breakfast is much better and more inclusive than most hotel breakfasts. They even had complimentary "International Herald Tribune" newspapers for those news starved Americans who miss the NYT and the Washington Post!

Room Tip: If possible, try to book a room fronting Lyssikratous Street (the entrance to the hotel). Street noise is minimal, that is, not at all intrusive as the street has very little traffic. The advantage is that your room will have an excellent view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon as well as of Hadrian's Gate. We did not see any other rooms but our room was superb.

This hotel is awesome. It's in such a good location to everything without feeling too mainstream.

Our room was spacious and really clean with a pretty big kitchen. Not that we used that as the food was so good everywhere and so cheap!

The reception staff were all very friendly and helpful with any questions we had.

We stayed at AVA hotel on the front end and back end of a trip to Greece recently; read the trip advisor reviews and made reservations over the internet. The hotel staff responded promptly to all queries and were very helpful. Since we were traveling with our 2 college-age children we reserved the family suite and we were delighted with the accommodations. I suspect it was worth every penny and the room was laid out very nicely and the balcony was huge and perfect.
We arrived to find the sofa bed all ready with a rollaway in addition; the separate bedroom was very nice. Although the bath is small, it worked well; the amenities were nice.
We were in awe of the breathtaking view of the "back side" of the acropolis off the balcony-it was quite spectacular at night and we came in when there was a full moon over the temple of Zeus on the other side of the street. We enjoyed one lovely sunny day after our arrival and the morning view of the acropolis was just as nice.
The location is great for walking the Plaka district and it is easy to get to Syntagma area; on our second visit we took the metro from the airport with one transfer to get to the acropolis station it was easy to find your way once you've been there (though a bit hard the first time with the small winding streets).
the hotel staff is very pleasant and am sure they would have been even more helpful if we were staying longer or needed more advice on local happenings. The morning breakfast was quite nice, all that you would want, including fresh greek yogurt, feta, breads, fruits, and make-your-own fresh squeezed orange juice. The nespresso machine in the room was nice, but it would have been even nicer if the pods were provided beyond the one freebie. We did enjoy a bottle of champagne on our arrival (both times!) because we 'liked' AVA on Facebook (just a tip).
We would definitely return and stay at AVA hotel.

Room Tip: If you are traveling as a family would stay in 301 or 302 on the top floor and enjoy the huge balcony
