Just at the end of last December, I stayed this hotel with a one-year-old baby and my wife.
The stay was just 2 nights but it was enough for us to feel the very friendly hospitality by the hotel staffs. The hotel provides their hand-made guide book which contains a lot of useful area information of restaurants, cafes, shops, tourisms and so on. Unfortunately because we took a small baby with us, we had no chance to try these restaurants and cafes.
This hand-made guide book gave us the warm and sincere impressions of the hotel staffs.
And the kitchen was well maintained, clean and easy to use.
And especially it’s very close location to the famous sightseeing points such as the Acropolis, the Temple of the Olympian Zeus and the Hadrian's Arch.
If we visit Athens again in the future, we would like to stay this hotel once more.

Finally I can say for once this is a place to recommend with no hesitation or condition. Truly what excellent accomodation ought to be, in one of Athen's best neighbourhoods.
Great location, very decent room size, impeccable cleanliness, but above all, a friendly, efficient and professional staff quite hard to find these days.
Well worth the price.

Sorry to spoil the party over this place but we just had a shocker. Had booked 2 nights well ahead. Then friends we were going on to stay with suddenly had to travel for a funeral and weren't sure to be back in time. As a precaution we booked 2 more nights at the AVA then cancelled them 5 days ahead once we knew our friends would be back. On arrival we were told we'd be charged a night's accommodation as cancellation charge. On inspection it seems this is within their policy (as 5 days not 7) but we were still staying, in low season, spending 500 EUR with no discount or commission to pay: from a rave-reviewed, 4* hotel I'd expect better! In the discussions, which got pretty heated and involved calls to tourist police etc, they pretended the law obliged them to charge this (nonsense: it allows them to but that doesn't make it good practice), said that it was a 'fully booked' period, then that the rooms weren't relet (which is it, guys?). Overall, an impression of dishonest people. We didn't even feel able to leave our luggaeg there for 24 hrs on departure as we had intended to.

Yes it's well placed and quite well-appointed (nothing special for the prie I'd say), but know who you're dealing with.

We regret the comments of this guest. Not only the guest knew about the hotel terms and conditions when he reserved the room but he had also been notified in writing 2 days before his arrival about the consequences in cutting his stay short during the busiest period of the year i.e. the Christmas period (27-31 December). Therefore he was fully aware of the exact amount applicable should he proceed with his earlier evacuation of the room.
The guest spoke on the telephone in our present to the Tourist Police, who confirmed that the Greek regulation clearly state that the guest is obliged to pay the cancellation fees in line with the law.
Unfortunately the guest did not accept this answer neither from the Tourist Police and in stead chose to behave aggressively and abusively to the staff, management and even bothered other hotel guests with his dissatisfaction regarding the charges. He threatened to write this bad review. We as hotel, we cannot afford to and we mustn’t allow to get intimidated by such threats. We were shocked with his unreasonable and aggressive manner especially as this guest has a good position at a European Organization and of which you may expect to understand, respect and comply with fundamental concepts like regulations, laws and obligations. As a side note, the guest eventually paid half of the fees (125 euros), courtesy of the Owner who accepted to pay the other half.

I stayed at the AVA with my family for a long weekend in December.
I selected this hotel after reading the excellent reviews this place got on this very website and I can only confirm that the feedbacks from fellow TripAdvisor travelers were accurate.

The location of the place is perfect: a few yards away from the entrance of the Acropolis compound and in the heart of the very pleasant Plaka area. In spite of being in the middle of a big and noisy city, in the Plaka neighborhood you have the impression (and the charm) of being in a little village, blessed with relaxed tempos and willingness to enjoy the good things of life.

As we were traveling as a family, we opted for a suite. The suite was ample and spacious: there was a large bedroom and a huge leaving area with kitchen and a sofa bed. We were asked whether we needed a roll-up bed as well, which was quickly installed in the suite. Most important, there was a big private terrace, with views over the Adrian Arch and the Temple of Zeus on one side and views over the Acropolis (unfortunately on the opposite side of the monuments) on the other side.

The buffet breakfast was good and abundant. I particularly liked the delicious Greek pastries and fresh fruit. You could also squeeze your own orange juice!
The very welcoming Vassiliki (I hope I got her name right) was in charge of the breakfast room and made sure that all the different offerings of food were available at all times.

The reception staff was friendly and welcoming. The three ladies in charge (Eleni, Christina and Maria) could not make enough for you and were always ready to help you with their recommendations and travel tips.
When Christina found out that we were celebrating the 80th birthday of my mother, she immediately arranged for a complimentary bottle of champagne to be sent to our suite. How nice! As the temperature was very mild for December (around 15 centigrade) we had a toast in the evening on our private terrace, which was one of the high points of our stay.

As to restaurants, we mostly stayed in the neighborhood. The one I liked the most was the Psarra, with great food and discreet live music. The Diogenes has a great setting and is very close to the AVA hotel, but the service and the quality of food are somehow disappointing. The Byzantino taverna - recommended by many TripAdvisor reviewers - was no more than OK, not really better than other anonymous tavernas we tried.
As Saturday was a sunny day, we went to Mikrolimano (fishing district next to Pireus) and had a nice open-air lunch by the see at the "Jimmy and the Fish". I would recommend highly this restaurant for its service and its location.

I had a great experience staying at the Ava. Eleni was great to book with via email. Our suite was clean and spacious. A complimentary bowl of fresh fruit was in our room for our arrival. I have nothing but great things to say about the staff, who each went well beyond necessary to make our stay pleasant.
