My husband and I spent a month in Europe Summer 16, did 2 days in Athens, and had a great time here. This hotel is amazing. It's got welcoming vibes for young luxe travelers!!!

While Air BnB's luxury tier is great (which we used alot in Italy) - this hotel helped me remember why even the best Air BnB can't stop the hotel industry. **THE SERVICE** White glove that beats out any BnB host.

* It's in the center of Syntagma Square - you're steps from the old palace, and close to the Acropolis - we could see it from the balcony in our rooms.

* They're connected to the Grand Bretagne next door. If you're looking for a chill place to have great drinks and engaging conversation it'll be perfect (they have a rooftop bar with amazing views - seeing the acropolis by night is awesome here).

* You can't beat the close vicinity to many of the archeological sites.

We felt very safe at night in the city center. We didn't really go out at night beyond the center and the Grand Bretagne (so tired and honestly a bit hung over after Santorini), so I can't speak on the nightlife or the news headlines recently coming out of Zakynthos / bringing up old stories on travel to Athens. This is what really prompted me to post this.

Greece was so hospitable. We received so much love our whole trip - from the islands to Athens. I learned how to properly pronounce words I've been hearing in history books my whole life bc someone heard me, stopped in the streets, and walked me through how to say it.

Literally had family style dish settings where locals sitting at a table next to us told the waiter to give us the dish they ordered instead because they wanted us to sample something awesome on the menu that we might've never tried otherwise (Whatup Moussaka!). Vegan life will be thrown on hiatus while traveling in Greece. Lamb is life. Feta makes the world betta! I now know that we Americans suck at food.

It breaks my heart to hear young people with money to burn say they're thinking about skipping it. DO NOT! Greece is awesome and I can't wait to go back. When we do Athens again, we'll be at King George to hit the sites we missed the first time. Book that flight + reserve this hotel.

Room Tip: Wake up early and have breakfast on the rooftop restaurant / would book the PH next time - has a poo...

At $4,000 aussie for the week to stay here, I would at least expect the tall man at reception to at least crack a smile. when I questioned a mini bar charge that I didn't make he seemed annoyed. he just shrugged and said...ok... that's it... no sorry or anything after that... just an awkward silence. the ladies up in the buffet breakfast on the other hand, what lovely ladies, always friendly and smiling, happy, chatty. although not a huge amount of food at the buffet, what was there was nice. spinach pie was delicious! room cleaner was a shocker.. went to make a coffee in the morning to find the dirty cups still there from the morning before. she also woke us up at 9:45pm to do the turn down service.. kept on banging on the door til we got up and answered...umm..if they latch thingy is on the door..obviously we are in there and sleeping! jeez!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your comments following your recent stay at the King George Hotel. We were disappointed to read about the inconveniences you encountered during your stay and we would like to apologize that our staff let you down on this occasion; this is certainly not the kind of service we offer to our guests. Your feedback is important to us and please rest assured that all the issues raised have been addressed to prevent any similar re-occurrences in the future. On a positive note, we are happy you enjoyed the service and breakfast at Tudor Hall Restaurant. We truly hope we will be given another chance to recover during a future visit in Athens.

This is the sister hotel of the more famous Grand Bretagne (which is right next door and operated by the same company).

Standard is very similar to the GB, although slightly more trendy. Both have rooftop restaurants with great views (but with very overpriced food compared to the good choices within 5 - 10 mins walk).

Location, right on Parliament Square is excellent.

King George is squarely in the middle of Syntagma Square in Athens. The hotel is very luxurious and also quite modern, with gorgeous art work in the lobby area and well appointed, pristine rooms. Access to all sights are convenient from the center of town -- both on foot as well as metro.

The food is by far the best of any hotel in Athens. The roof top restaurant is a Michelin star rated spot called Tudor Hall. The breakfast spread every morning is magnificent, as are the rooftop views of the Acropolis.

Kuzina, another Michelin rated restaurant serving contemporary Greek food, is just a 15 minute walk from the hotel and highly recommended.

We stayed 2 nights in July 2017. We got upgraded to a suite since we were Platinum Members. I give it 4.5 stars.
The rooms were very nice but the tile shower enclosures were a little dirty here and there. The finishes are older
but that was OK. Very charming older luxury hotel. It was very clean and the staff was 5 star. The food was very
good at the restaurant.
