We stayed in the villa over the Easter holidays in 2018 as a family of 3. The villa is very cosy and comfortable. There is nothing missing, the internet worked great and even though it was over 30 degrees every day we never felt the lack of air conditioning. The big pool helped the heat.
There are a few beautiful beaches just walking distance from the villa, literally a few minutes. There was hardly anyone there at any given time and it was very peaceful.
You must rent a car - it is a necessity and will allow you to see the whole island - easy drive as it is not overly big.
One thing we would say is that the exchange rate is better in Barbados than anywhere else, so you can get your currency upon arrival at the airport at the bank point.
There is also a shopping centre close to the villa with two supermarkets, one of them has various Tesco products.
The only issue was the fact that the island is very expensive. Grocery products are twice as expensive as in the UK. Despite this, we would still recommend this destination.
Overall we had a wonderful time and enjoyed every minute of our stay.
Even after having vacationed in the Caribbean for more than two decades - - mostly in rental properties - - my wife and I were not prepared for this charming, two-bedroom home, which features dozens of homey touches, a fully equipped kitchen, a private backyard pool, and a dazzling, unobstructed view of the ocean that will take your breath away. This kind of location is normally reserved for villas worth tens of millions of dollars (and there are a few of those nearby), with the panoramic sky views featuring both brilliant dawns and spectacular sunsets. Photos simply cannot do it justice. Unless you simply have to have sand underneath you, it can be difficult to justify ever leaving this sanctuary except to get provisions. Not only was the owner and their caretakers (who are neighbors) wonderfully helpful, but the whole neighborhood was friendly, making our two week stay feel even more like "being at home." (We should be so lucky as to call this home!)
I must mention to prospective renters that his property is a bit off the beaten track, and unless you're a master of the local bus transportation (which is very good), you are going to need to rent a car, as the house is about 20-25 minutes from the south-east and southern beaches (best for swimming and nice breezes) and about the same from the more commercialized western beaches. For us, that trade-off was just fine, as the nighttime views - - not being subject to the commercial area's light sources - - is stunning, and going to sleep with nothing more than the "Whistling Frogs" referenced in the property's name was a wonderful change from properties and hotels that suffer from road and nightclub noise.
All in all, a great choice for the traveler who values a beautiful home base, and isn't afraid of doing a little exploring by car to find the sometimes hidden sweet spots on the island. But please, before inquiring about availability, just give us time to make our reservations for next year.
I recently stayed for 2 wks at the Whistling Frog, the villa was lovely and the housekeeper was very helpful and friendly, so was the owner janet m, Bottom bay is a lovely quiet area and you do need a car to get about, there is a good supermarket a short drive away at Emerald City which stocks a lot of items we are used to in uk, I would certainly book this villa again. Thankyou Janet M for being so helpful.
We stayed at the Whistling Frog for two weeks over Christmas 2016. We had a really great time there. The house was lovely and had everything you could need and Jan who lives a few houses down was there to greet us and was very helpful during our stay. The house is in a nice clean and quiet residential area. We really loved the swimming pool, so nice to come back after another hot sunny day at various beaches and bars and restaurants and jump in and relax and enjoy the uninterrupted view from the house to the sea - fantastic. Bottom Bay is a very short walk and is a classically beautiful bay as are some of the other bays dotting this coast, though the sea can be rough with strong currents so be careful. Shark Hole is mad but you should take a look. Crane beach is ten minutes’ drive away and must be one of the best beaches in the world, beautiful clean sand, great waves, so much more interesting and fun than the relatively still waters of the west coast. Supermarkets, shops and banks etc. are a 10 minute drive away, and there are numerous smaller mini-marts just a few minutes from the house as is a doctors surgery. Nearest local restaurant (apart from the Crane Resort ones…) is Marco Polo’s which has a nice ex-pat atmosphere, great rums and superb food, good value and recommended! You really need to hire a car to get around but it’s a small island and nothing takes much time to get to. We loved it!
The villa was superb. Spacious and well furnished with a stunning sea view. Could not fault. John and Jan the property management, were again on hand to answer any queries we had or to deal with any issues. The local people are very lovely and we met up with a few friends we met last year. Would highly recommend a visit to Lendees which can be found on the main road above Bottom Bay on a Friday and Saturday night. They serve amazing BBQ food that is so tasty that we ate there both nights on each weekend of our stay this year and last year. Would also recommend a cruise with Silver Linings who can pick you up from the villa and take you back for a small additional fee. We don't drive but as the bus service is regular (and cheap) we had no problems getting around. There are two local bars, A J pool and bar and The Roundhouse which can be found around the main road above Bottom Bay. The people will make you feel very welcome and we can't wait to go back and see them all again next year!!
