We enjoyed 11 days in this lovely apartment. Very good value for money. Plenty of spaces indoors and outdoors, if you are a larger group. I won't repeat other reviews. Enough to say the apartment has everything you could need. The outside area was our favourite place and the views from the garden are stunning.
There are a couple of areas which could do with some attention, but this did not distract from our stay. The place could do with a lick of paint. It seems a shame to have such a lovely wooden staircase and floors and then marked walls. Also the sunbeds and covers need replacing, although they are useable.
Unfortunately we did have problems with the actual address. For some reason, taxi drivers couldn't find it easily and after some fairly exasperated rides, with limited communication, we started to use the address of the cafe, around the corner (taken from the shop till receipts). Things were easier after that.
The buses are regular and cheap. Walk to the small cafe near the house, continue left round the corner onto a downhill road. You will see a bus shelter, half way down the road on the right...Numbers 20, 21 and 22 go down to Funchal (stay on the bus, right to the end bus station for the sea front).
For Monte, take the bus from opposite the bus shelter (on the left). Buses 20 and 21 go to Monte. I'm sure there are more buses than mentioned, but these are the ones that we discovered and used. We never waited for more than 12 minutes.
Enjoy your stay.
We stayed here for a couple of weeks in July. The house is like a home from home and well equipped throughout.... although we spent most of our time in the lovely outdoor area, which is like having a kitchen/diner outside - it's set up with a brick built BBQ , outdoor sink, worktops and big table and seating area - plus a handy hatch into the main kitchen.
The house has great views across Funchal and across the sea. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the morning watching the ships come in.
It's about a 20 minute walk to town downhill, with a very nice cafe half way. It takes a little longer to get back as it's up hill so we normally caught the bus back. There are regular buses from the seafront (next to 'Vermelinho' seafront bar) that cost under 2 Euros (if you buy a bus card and pay for trips in advance, it works out even cheaper) and it drops you just around the corner from the house.
If you do stay in Madeira, definitely try the local Lemon based drink, 'Poncha', which is delicious...but don't get carried away....it's surprisingly strong!
I'd highly recommend this lovely Madeiran house.
Lovely House. More than adequate for our requirements. Well equipped.
The pool table was a challenge. Whichever end we sent a ball it rolled back to the middle!
The only niggle is that the Google directions were misleading. We ended up getting a taxi which we followed in our car. The google directions did not mention Rua das Lajes and the key fob did not have the house number. We had to ring the local agents to clarify where the house was located.
We stayed for a week and can't fault the place. The location is fantastic, it's a downhill walk into Funchal and on a easy bus route which we used when we didn't fancy the walk back. Cabs from town were cheap. There's a shop and cafe round the corner.
The views are amazing!! We loved having a cup of tea and breakfast out on our balcony in the morning.
The large covered BBQ area is fab and on one evening provided shelter from the rain! We loved the fact that there was wood provided.
We loved our stay here and would stay again when returning to this beautiful island.
