Fabulous holiday at The Cliff Bay. Great room on the 6th floor (sea view) but to be honest a side sea view would be just as good. Great to see that the hotel has been able to respond to comments made in the past - courtesy bus now provided, tea/coffee in the room (plus everything else you could want, including big fluffy dressing gowns). Facilties at the hotel were great and loved the little extra touches - see picture of afternoon entertainment. Breakfast was great - how nice to have complementary champagne with our smoked salmon and (perfect) scrambled egg. Ate in the hotel Rose Garden one evening and whilst good (a little expensive) did not cater well for vegetarians - difficult to eat out generally as a vegetarian. Would definitely make a return journey.

Thank you for your feedback. It is very important to know the differences between the sea view rooms and the side sea view rooms for which personally I prefer the sea view rooms and they clearly have a more unobtrusive view. We do our very best to listen to our guests and to try to further improve our services in this ever changing world.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay and I am hoping to welcome you back in a near future.

Having read all the previous reviews there isn't much more to add. I agree with most of the comments; rooms, staff and views were all excellent. I would disagree with the comment about the Michelin starred restaurant being reasonably priced, we have a local one nearby and it's nowhere near as expensive. The hotel prices are more than a lot of London restaurants. There are plenty of bars and good restaurants near the hotel and although you expect to pay more in a five star hotel I think more people would eat and dine in the hotel if they dropped their prices a bit. All in all we would recommend the hotel on a B&B basis and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Have a sea view room if possible.

Thank you for your feedback. When comparing to the average of Michelin starred restaurants both in Portugal and abroad our prices cannot be considered high. There are however many times local differences but the availability of produce is normally different. Being an island 1000 km from mainland has many benefits but also some disadvantages like transportation and on certain occasions vast availability of skills. We have much positive feedback regarding our culinary offerings at the hotel.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay and I am hoping to welcome you back in a near future.

For the second time we went to the Michelin star Restaurant to celebrate Valentine Day and for the second time we had a fabulous evening. The food is just out of this world; not only it looks very stylish, it tastes delicious and the service is perfect. Romantic music was softly played throughout the meal with the possibility of dancing which was just a dream come true. We had a fantastic, most memorable evening and will come back next year.

Just returned from a very pleasant week at this stylish and very comfortable hotel. We read previous comments carefully before our visit which were helpful.Prices for food, drink and spa treatments were reasonable for five star hotel and every detail displayed quality.
Rooms and balcony very pleasant and sheets lovely.A special mention for the very hard working gardener who laboured very hard indeed to maintain pristine grounds.
We did visit their timeshare property nearby( for a discount on trips) and found this interesting and not hard sell.We did have an issue re service in the michelin restaurant on a busy valentines day. However the way the manager and guest relations reacted to ensure we were enjoying our stay displayed that the staff really do care about their customers and turned a negative into a positive Very professional. The carnival last saturday was fun but not for everyone.
In summary we would highly recommend this hotel and excellent staff who do everything possible to ensure customer satisfaction

Room Tip: Ask to see room options before having a rear view

Two single-travellers enjoyed all the facilities, courtesy and benefits of the this hotel without the usual prejudice and expense that is often heaped upon those who travel alone. The rooms were large, generous and comfortable: King-size bed, balcony, comfortable sitting area and a bathroom with separate shower and tub, toilet and bidet, and two sinks. Bathrobes, slippers and very large, soft bath towels and washcloths were indulgently refreshed and tidied at least twice a day. My friend complained that she could hear the music from the bar and was quickly and charmingly moved to an equally grand room with a fantastic view over the harbour and Funchal. Wall sockets not well placed for hair styling, but a there were two hairdryers provided: one wall-mounted in the bath and a more powerful portable, hand-held one. The balconies were pleasant with a table and set of chairs for which seat cushions were provided. The spa and treatments are highly recommended. Reasonably priced for the level of skill and quality of products. There is a well equipped gym, Jacuzzi and two pools. Both pools are heated and one is partially indoors. The weather was a little cool while there, but can see that in the warmth of spring and summer, the choice of which comfy lounger to inhabit would be a tough one. 2 large towels are provided and staff are available for your every (within reason) wish. The food was good. We ate at the breakfast buffet and with the selection, option for individually prepared eggs, toasts, etc and the attention of the staff, it was difficult to see that having breakfast in our rooms or in the Michelin starred restaurant would have been that much more pleasant. We ate in the Michelin starred restaurant and although the food was delicious, the service was less attentive than at the breakfast buffet and the atmosphere rather too well-lit and poorly spaced; more tea at your granny's than dinner at the Savoy. Daily 'things to do' are available and it is a convenient and 'ate too much' guilt reducing stroll into Funchal. A good time was had and I will certainly be returning.

Room Tip: If you look over the inner garden and towards the west, you will have aftenoon sun
