Description: Where Cafe Saudade now stands, there used to be housed the historical Queijadas da Mathilde cheesecake factory from 1888 to 1974.These queijadas de Sintra (cheesecakes) were a favorite of King Ferdinand II (who restored the Pena Palace). During the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, the king gave the factory founder a stamp marked Mathilde, to brand the cheesecakes bound for the royal family. The Cafe Saudade was restored and preserved over a year long renovation in 2008 and opened in the summer of 2009. Recycled and regional materials and resources were used to create an environment that authentic. We pride ourselves for this and and for the fact that our team offers the best service they can.The spaces of the old cheesecake factory are today a cultural reference in Sintra's recent historical background. Its preservation allows us a glimpse into the ancient manufacturing process of the typical queijada de Sintra.Wander through the "Saudade Labyrinth" and fall in love with Sintra. Visit our Art Gallery and explore the various rooms with pieces of furniture that we restored with love and care, and in which we have handcrafts for sale. We host literary gatherings, jazz and fado concerts, and other cultural activities.

The service was quick and efficient, we were kindly invited into the restaurant by the waitresses Cati. She was very kind, nice and helpful with the menu. The soups (spinach with chickpeas) and the drinks (beer, sangria) were great, the sandwiches with chicken/sardines were disappointing because they had very little chicken/sardines.

This was where we had our inclusive breakfast when we stayed at Chalet Saudade. The breakfast was delicious and very filling, my wife couldn't finish it.

Oh my, I can still taste the pastries we enjoyed at breakfast two days in a row! The environment is hip and welcoming. We ate more than we should have and washed down the food with yummy juice and great coffee. The service was top rate and we send a special shout out to Yunieski Herdia, the Cuban baseball player, who tended to our table and made our time so much fun.

My friends and I went here for lunch prior to going to see the palace. We were lucky enough to sit outside in the courtyard at the back of the cafe where it was just the five of us. It was however close enough to be entertained by all the street activity.
The weather was unseasonably hot when we visited and was wonderful.
Their house made lemonade is the best I have had in a very long time and the veggie soup is very good. The sandwiches and wraps are all to be recommended. The pastries, well you have to try the local pastries from the area. Excellent!
Our server was very attentive and very nice.
All in all, in good weather, it is the perfect place for lunch.
(There is an inside area also, so in inclement weather, I’d still recommend it.)

Visited this cafe after being at the palace and castle. Had a few Portuguese pastries which were all very nice. We were going to buy a vegetarian wrap or crepe that is on the menu outside however when inside the menu has it scored out and the vegetarian sandwich with vegetarian sausage in had the sausage crossed out however the sandwich was the same price. (Seemed wrong that the sandwich having the main ingredient not in it would be the same price - when asked the staff member just said it’s the same price)

The place was decent.
