My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in early May. The weather wasn't too kind, but never spoiled what was a very enjoyable and comfortable hotel experience. This hotel is set on a rocky outcrop overlooking the sea and has spectacular sandy beaches on either side. We had a superior room which was on the first floor. Quite spacious and comfortable. The bathroom and loo were well appointed if a little small.
The views from our room and the lounge/restaurant are just fantastic

The restaurant is excellent, and their gourmet dinner with wine pairing was pure theatre. But, you have to pay for that. It was very expensive. Breakfasts here were good also.

We did not have a car on this trip, as we were keen to go on beach walks and the like. However, taxis into Cascais are not expensive and were readily available when asked for.

As we have found in virtually all hotels and restaurants in Portugal the staff were friendly, helpful, and very attentive. They looked after us very well, and it does make a big difference to the enjoyment of your stay.

This hotel is quite unique, a little quirky, but overall, a really lovely place to stay, and from our perspective, highly recommended.

Good morning from Hotel Fortaleza do Guincho,

First of all I would like to apologize for my late answer.

It is with great pleasure we read your comment and learned that you have enjoyed your stay in our property as well as your time in Portugal.

After such a nice description of our property and surrounding area, I would like to mention that we are very close to Lisbon and Lisbon International airport as well as Sintra ( UNESCO world heritage ); and of course you can always ask us to call you a taxi.

Just for your information, in addition to our restaurant, it is possible to have a nice meal in our bar, where we have a large and nice menu with an average cost of 25.00 to 35.00 euros p.person. It is possible to eat in the bar from 11.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.

After a nice day in the beach it is always nice to end the day in our terrace enjoying the sun set.

We really hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again.

One last word to thank you for sharing your experience with the TripAdvisor community.

With our best regards.

The hotel is one of a kind both by its location on the top rated guincho beach and by the 1star michellin's guide restaurant that it hosts.
Staying in a standard room with partial sea view and a bubble tub in the bathroom.
We ate at the restaurant of miguel (1star) and that was a fabulous !

My husband's brithday dinner at Fortaleza do Guincho was the best birthday experience in recent memory. The inspiration for this lovely restaurant comes from the sea with a a culinary experience what seemed like French cuisine. Located on the Atlantic Ocean, the fresh fish and seafood from the Portuguese coast as well as the best national products were a highlight. Every dish was presented as a visual spectacle. We felt like we were in a museum. The butter looked like sea shells! We ordered a 5 course meal which was complimented by the appropriate delicious wine. Never in my life have I experienced a better meal. All the wait staff did a perfect job. They ALL spoke at least 5 different languages. We speak English and almost everyone we met in Lisbon speak English as well...and Portuguese, French, Afrikaans, Spanish, it was amazing how multi-cultural Portugal is!

Room Tip: Eat dinner at the restaurant!

We were a party of eight celebrating a birthday dinner at this amazing restaurant. We started with a nice port, and some photos outside overlooking the ocean. The view from the restaurant is stunning. We all ordered a four course prixe fix meal, which turned into 10 unique items to eat. The service is second to none, and each thing brought out was great. They were creative in both presentation, and flavour. Neither my water nor my wine glass was ever empty. We all left with full bellies and huge smiles on our faces. One of the best meals I have ever had. Definitely in the top three.

Stayed here for the 3rd time. Must say I'm not sure I'd go back. Staff were friendly and very helpful but the rooms need a facelift. Looks a bit old and outdated. Location is stunning and the restaurant faultless and staff are great but for the price of a room per night, other hotels closer to the centre of cascais give more value for money. A one night stay to eat at the restaurant and take in the location would suffice.

Good afternoon from Hotel Fortaleza do Guincho,

Thank you very much for your time.

We are really sorry, that we were not able to provide you an unique experience, since you may not come again.

As a matter of fact we are renewing all our rooms & bathrooms, but unfortunately due to our occupancy those last months we were not able to do all the rooms; fortunately we have done the majority of them but still missing a few.

On the other hand, we are built in a Fortress from the XVII, which is part of the experience we have to offer; therefore we won't by a modern hotel even with all the rooms renewed.

We truly believe that we are able to offer a special stay, although we do not have a SPA or a swimming pool in the Hotel; but for the ones who want to enjoy it we can recommend a club close by to the Hotel with whom we have a special agreement.

Once again we apologize for not being able to reach your expectation.

We remain at your entire disposal for any further information.
Best regards,
