Our first time in Aveiro and we picked a peach of a hotel to spend 8 days here. Quite handy for the rail station and located on the ''Lago da Fonte Nova'' (The newly sourced lake) adjacent to the gorgeous council offices located in a beautifully refurbished ceramics factory. The walk into Aveiro from the hotel is a delight, either along the canal watching the boats or indeed by passage on one of the boats. Many good things to happily report - the staff are very pleasant and efficient and this goes throughout the hotel. Our one meal in the restaurant was a most pleasurable experience with a charming young lady server. The maids are efficient and friendly. The décor to the hotel is very attractive, the reception, bar, lounge and restaurants all spacious and comfortable. The rooms have pretty much everything you need too - safe, comfortable bed, free toiletry items, smart TV (with charging points for your items), lots of storage space, large enough bathroom (albeit with a leaking shower screen), openable windows and some carpeting. The refrigerated mini-bar is sparsely stocked, but is useful for your own food and drink. Sadly the doors do not have self-closing devices and quite a bit of noise from inconsiderate guests slamming their doors. The biggest noise problem is from an area to the ground floor where the piano is positioned at the base of an enormous space that rises to...Our first time in Aveiro and we picked a peach of a hotel to spend 8 days here. The biggest noise problem is from an area to the ground floor where the piano is positioned at the base of an enormous space that rises to the top of the hotel. Doesn't matter where you are, any noise from that area rises throughout and finds you. A wedding reception on our first night was intensely noisy, whilst other 'musical' exploits on a further 3 evenings were not overly appreciated as the clock reached the late hours (especially as the ducks outside joined in around then). The railway line is close by and noisy freight trains do run at irregular hours. We did buy ear plugs to assuage the noise, happily they did improve things. This noise factor is the only thing that keeps us from rating this hotel as excellent, but as it seems this function area is quite often used it does affect the overall experience.More
