We live in Lagos and are used to finding the best places at the best quality & value in town and beyond.

The Tivoli Hotel in town is a good place to base yourself, in what is the Algarve's finest town with the best beaches...Now...a warning... the Duna Beach Club, which is owned ( I believe by the Tivoli Hotel ) and their official "beach club" is a big, expensive let down !!..The welcome is non-existent from a bad tempered pool-side manager, who publicly told me off for daring to sit down on a sun lounger that was pre-booked...How was I to know...no sign on the lounger...OK I'm a first timer and need nurturing...like a "customer", best send this guy for some training...the beer is an expensive outrage at E3.50 for a 33cl glass ( the average in town is 80 cents) and the overall impression of the club, is one of a run-down tatty enterprise, run on a shoe-string budget...even the sun loungers were falling to bits and had not seen a lick of varnish in years...very poor...which is a shame as the location is great. Must do better...but avoid until then!!

The Duna Beach Club (affiliated with the Tivoli Hotel in Lagos - which is lovely) is asthetically beautiful, located right on the beachfront, with lovely sun loungers and a very nice pool area. They were preparing for a Wedding when we were there - gorgeous lanterns in all the trees, etc - very pretty indeed. There is also a very convenient coach that takes you to and from the Duna Beach Club and the Hotel.

However, DO NOT EAT HERE - the food is horrible. Cold soggy chips, tough-as-leather steak, tiny portions of everything, all over-priced. Service is dreadful - we waited 40 minutes for a table and then they sat another (newer) group down before us. The waitresses were patently fed up and bored of being there, messed up our orders, took FOREVER to bring us our (horrible) food, didn't care, no managers in sight. My recommendation would be - go with a good book and some snacks to lounge around the pool or beach (which is nice to do at this Beach Club) but DO NOT eat lunch or dinner here.
