“A lovely family holiday …”

We stayed at Casa do Farol in April 2015 as a family of six adults and two toddlers.

The location is ideal – a pleasant stroll from Carvoeiro itself, almost next door to the Rocha Brava resort with its supermarket, restaurants and bar but far enough away from everything to be completely peaceful. The traditional furnishings and décor of the villa make it seem like a much loved family home rather than a holiday let. The kitchen is very well appointed with every dish, serving bowl, plastic container and utensil you could possibly need. We made good use of the dishwasher and washing machine and the large washing line in the side garden! Casa do Farol is spacious and fairly toddler-proof although we did move some of the ornaments, etc in the lounge just to be safe! The satellite TV was a great help at times when it came to keeping the little ones amused - so too was the free wi-fi.

We were pleasantly surprised by the welcome basket and the housekeeping provided by Dina next door was much appreciated. She and her husband are very friendly and helpful, and the one small problem we had with the washing machine was quickly sorted.

We visited most of the beaches in the area and had a pleasant lunch at the café on Centianes beach. The piri piri restaurant Ramires in Guia is a must and we also enjoyed the tapas at Casa Ibérica in Carvoeiro (which also does takeaways – very handy on our first evening as we didn’t arrive until past 9PM).

“Felt Like a Second Home”

This was the second time that we had rented Casa do Farol over Easter. The villa was a real home from home and perfect for a relaxed and peaceful holiday. Getting here from Faro airport takes less than an hour. We were met by the very friendly next door neighbor, who also came round to clean the house every couple of days and is on hand if you need anything. Having said that, I found that a quick email to Nuno, the owner will get you the answer to any questions you may have.

The villa has lots of space for a large family, is comfortable, well furnished, well maintained and equipped with everything you might need. On this visit, we also found that the villa now has wi-fi internet access, which proved very useful. The pool area is a great place to relax, with plenty of sun beds, plus tables and chairs for alfresco meals. If you want even more peace and privacy, the large roof terrace has a great view out to the coast and the lighthouse at Alfanzina.

The villa is close to Carvoeiro town so you can easily explore the many excellent restaurants in the area, although our favourite is Rochamar, which is just 50 metres from the villa's front gate. At this time of year, there is no problem getting a table anywhere, even over the Easter weekend when the town is slightly busier.

If you want to do more than simply relax there are many things to do in the area. Centianes is probably the closest beach in a small cove and is within walking distance. It also has a nice beach cafe and bar. Apart from several other excellent beaches along this part of the coast, there are boat trips, shopping at Portimao, a water park and Zoomarine all within a short drive. Check out the Carvoeiro.com website for details on local attractions, as well as car hire and airport transfers.

The Rocha Brava complex is just across the road from the villa. This has to be one of the most pleasant apartment complexes on the Algarve and as far as we could see, you are free to use most of the facilities, including the two tier communal pool, particularly useful if your kids need some other kids to play with, the tennis club and the pleasant little cafe / bar near the entrance. There is also a small supermarket on the site. In conclusion,

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Casa do Farol for a relaxed and enjoyable family vacation. I'm sure we will be back again.

“Highly Recommended, Lovely Peaceful Retreat”
Reviewed 18 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We stayed at Casa do Farol for 10 days in April 2014. We were very impressed with the villa, which is very spacious. For our party of six, there was lots of space and I don't think it would seem overcrowded with a larger group. The villa is well equipped and is comfortably furnished as a traditional Algarvian house with lots of interesting ornaments and features. Each of the large double or twin bedrooms has a different style. In fact it feels very much like a family home, not just a typical holiday villa. The pool area and terrace is a real sun trap and we spent much of our vacation just relaxing here. The location is very peaceful as the road past the villa gets little traffic.

Email communication with the owners Ana and Nuno, was very good from our initial enquiry right through to our arrival and they both went out of their way to help us with anything we needed to make our stay as good as it could be, even making a restaurant reservation for our first night.

The house is very close to the entrance to the Rocha Brava complex, which means you have most of the facilities of the complex on your doorstep, including the excellent little cafe (with free wifi), mini supermarket and the tennis courts. There are also two very good restaurants within 100 metres, Jardim do Farol and Rochamar, both of which we would very much recommend.

The area has several lovely and picturesque beaches, a couple of which are within easy walking distance. You can also take a very nice long walk along the cliff tops between the various coves and beaches. It is about a 30 minute walk down into Carvoeiro, where there is a big choice of excellent restaurants and bars. If you don't fancy the walk back to the villa after a big meal, a taxi costs only 5 euros.

We rented a car from the excellent AlgarveDriver.com, who also arranged our transfer from Faro, but in most respects you could probably just about manage without a car, although the nearest big supermarket is Intermarche which is about a 10 minute drive. There is also an Aldi in Carvoeiro apparently.

We love Carvoeiro, especially at this time of year when the weather is just starting to get warmer (in the low 20s for most of our visit), but it is still reasonably quiet and uncrowded. This was our second visit at Easter and I wouldn't be surprised if we don't come back for many Easter visits in the future. If we do, Casa do Farol will be at the top of our accommodation list.
