“Fantastic value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 December 2011

This apartment complex was brilliant. The staff were polite, the apartments were clean and tidy and had almost everything you could want to make it a home from home.

I was there over Christmas and it was pretty quiet, but that just made it like a quiet, calm oasis away from the old town.

I'd definitely recommend a trip to Lidl to buy your groceries, it's a bit of a hike - if you're not used to walking long distances - so I'd suggest getting a taxi. Also the walk to the old town: lovely walk there but, if you don't like walking uphill, then get a taxi.

Now that I know what it's like I'd definitely go back - definitely value for money!

Room Tip: Get a roof-top room facing south and you'll have sun virtually all day!

We stayed in Pateo Village Apartments during the first week in August. (2 Adults 2 Children 1 teenager and 1 toddler) The complex was quiet and very family orientated which is what we were looking for. Although in need of some TLC the apartments were large and spacious. We were on the top floor with a huge balcony and a pool view. These are basic apartments but you get what you pay for (cheap and cheerful) it was about a 15min walk to the old town in Albufeira. Mama mias restaurant was 2 min walk from complex. This is a nice family restaurant but the only complaint about it was that the service was slow (although food was good) so I you want to eat here go in plenty of time. Also close by was a lidl store which was handy for self catering on a budget. Staff were friendly and welcoming at Pateo Village. We would definitely consider staying in Pateo Village again. It was our first trip to Portugal and we would definitely be returning. Much prefer it to spain.

Room Tip: We found the top floor apt ideal for a toddler, as the ground floor aprts are next to the pool and h...

Again after reading reviews wasnt sure what to expect but have to say me and my husband thoroughly enjoyed this holiday. We arrived about midday on the sunday and couldnt check in our room til 3.00 but we just went to the poolside cafe and had a drink and bite to eat and enjoyed the sun until our room was ready (we changed into our shorts in the reception toilets) When we were allocated our room we were not disappointed - we had a room on the second floor which basically had the sun on the massive balcony all day - we would sit and have a drink about 4.00 - 5.00pm still with the sun beaming in. We walked down to Albufeira every day - yes it can be a bit of drag coming back but we didnt mind - it did us good after drinking a cold beer and eating toasties at lunch time! Beach was lovely and we used to sit in the tropical bar overlooking the beach with our beer just watching the world go by - lots of paragliding water sports etc going on. We ate at Mama-mias two or three times in the evening and food was excellent sat outside with a wonderful view. All in all we thorougly enjoyed our holiday and the weather for October was absolutely stunning - didnt see a cloud all week! We have been abroad many times and this was one of our favourites - we will definitely return. Only one negative (yes have thought of one) the supermarket on site was useless - hardly anything in it at all - but there is another one just along the road if you turn left

Room Tip: A second or third floor room opposite the coffee shop are probably the best with the sun shining all...

Three of us travelled. Myself, my wife, both in our thirties, and our six year old son. I booked online after reading the reviews. I was looking for something cheap, but not nasty. Pateo came out top, so Pateo it was. I really didn't know what to expect. We arrived quite late and were booked in by, I assume, the lady some other reviewers have complained about. Yes, she is very cold. And yes, she is rude.

We were self-catering and we had a ground floor apartment. The room was massive. It was clean and presentable and I was delighted. The patio doors at the rear opened out onto the garden with 2 swimming pools. Both outdoor pools were great. We didn't have any concerns about them whatsoever. I never saw the indoor pool, so I can't comment. There are quite a few cats around, which didn't bother us, and a few dogs.

Some people have suggested families with small children getting a balcony room. I would disagree. The patio doors lock. The key comes with your door key. So, with the patio doors locked children cannot escape out into the pool. With a balcony room, surely there's a danger of falling.

The walk down to the town/beach is fine. We actually enjoyed it. Coming back up can be a bit tiring, but we managed and we are not athletes. The 'old' town is pleasant. It was quite busy but not rammed when we went. The beaches are fantastic. We explored all along our local patch of coast and it was wonderful. We found so many different shells.

We did go the 'The Strip' once in the day. It was very touristy, very chavvy and not our thing at all. But there are a lot of mostly tacky bars for anyone who likes that Benidorm thing. Thankfully, Pateo is the other end of Albufeira, which is one reason why we chose it.

The food is good, without being spectacular. This is a tourist town, so expect the food to be a bit pricey. Prices ranged from around 25 euros for lunch to 35 to 55 for an evening meal (that's for all three of us). Obviously, you can save money by eating in if you go self-catering like we did.

I may have sounded a bit negative, but we all had a fantastic time. The weather was wonderful. 27 degrees and sunny all week in October. We don't holiday very much, so this was a really big deal for us. We were all delighted by the accomodation and the location. It's a great place to just chill out. If you are holidaying on budget, I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Just don't let the receptionist bother you.

We arrived late Saturday afternoon to be told by the receptionist that complex was full and we were allocated room number 001, but we would have another room allocated on Sunday.
The room was large but basic and the lighting was more akin to an operating room. We then immediately set off and walked into Albufeira, getting back to the apartments shortly after 10.00pm. As we came round the corner we realised why room 001 was the room from hell. The patio area of our room merged into the bar area (see photo). After travelling through the day we were ready for an early night. Unfortunately there was a “turn” on in the bar and they belted the music out till shortly before 1.00am. Even after the music ceased people stayed talking, finally peace and quiet, only for disturbances from the early hours of Sunday morning. We subsequently discovered that this was the turn round day for Thomson’s guests and there were 4 flights with pickups from just after 5.30am, hence the noise as people came past the apartment on the way to reception.
On the following day we did get the room changed at it was ready for us by around 10.30am. The new room could not have been more different from the first. Basically the complex consists of 5, 2 story blocks, with the 2nd story being the “penthouse” apartments. Effectively these apartments have a sun terrace that is equivalent in size to a full apartment on the lower floors. Due to the position of our apartment we could see the sea from both ends of our terrace. The apartment was generously proportioned and was larger than required, we never used the living area, and we basically lived on the terrace. We took sun loungers up and we did notice that when rooms were vacated the maids took sunloungers away.
Kitchen was minimally stocked with 4 of everything, 3 pans, 1 frying pan, a full cooker with 4 electric rings, microwave, kettle and toaster. Fridge had a small freezer compartment; take your own ice bags. Maid service was best described as erratic, often not arriving till late afternoon and then all they did was make the beds (2 singles pushed together to make a double) and a quick brush round. Towels changed 3 times, including on the last day, which made no sense.
Everything; from the reception to the fixtures and fittings in the rooms and the pool furniture, was best described as functional and dated. However all the public areas were was exceptionally clean. There were some cats in the gardens and whilst we saw dogs on the local streets we never saw a dog in the complex at any stage.
We did not use either pool bar/café or the main bar (only open in the evening) however it was 2 euro for a small beer, 2.5 euros for a large beer and 2 euros for a litre bottle of chilled beer from the on site supermarket. The supermarket was large but was virtually empty other than water, pop, beer, limited selection of relatively expensive wines, bread and a small selection of tinned goods. No fresh food, not even milk on our first 2 days, we never looked after this. However there is small supermarket about 100m away and this was well stocked and as it was on the way back from town it was ideal, but it is closed on Sunday.
Pools and surrounding area are good, especially the gardens (see photos). If you want shade there are plenty of mature trees including olives, almond, banana and flowering shrubs.
The complex is at the top of a hill; good on the way down into town but a drag back in the evening, especially if you have eaten at O Manar. I have read in a brochure that it’s a 15 minute walk to the beach, it’s actually nearer ½ an hour and coming back it’s a good 15 minutes from the edge of the old town. However there are some restaurants close to the complex that are very good: the Mama Mia (pear baked in liquor with grilled cheese as a starter) and O Lem (if you ask for the prawn cocktail starter as a main you get 8-9 jumbo prawns served in a beautiful velvety seafood sauce).
On balance not good enough for 4 stars, probably deservs around 3.5, but given what we had paid we would definitely return.
Pro's: Clean, good gardens/pool area, large apartments, cheap.
Con's: Dated and functional, no ambience,

Room Tip: If you are allocated room 001 be afraid! However any room starting with a 3 will be fine.
